Johnny Cash
About this listen
In his writings, Lebanese poet Kahlil Gibran weaves Christian, Moslem, and Buddhist ideals into a spiritual tapestry that transcends cultural barriers. Gibran is known the world over for his epic poem,
The Prophet. This collection of his lesser-known writings reveals the author's insights on youth, love, marriage, and truth, and delves into nationalism, religion, and spiritual growth. Originally written in Arabic, these writings were first translated into French, and are only now available in English.

Johnny Cash does an amazing job!
How does one enhance poetry to rival Rumi? Apparently, one gets Johnny Cash to read it aloud. I've given The Prophet to everyone I've cared about since I was 12 years old, and I've read a many of Kahlil Gibran's other works. This isn't my favorite of his books, The Prophet would be hard pressed to be pushed from its standing in my heart, but I loved listening to it. Mr. Cash's voice intones a sobriety and genuine understanding of the work, and the lilt of the narration lends itself naturally to meditation. I intend to listen to this again, but in pieces - I absorbed it all of apiece my first go - with time to meditate in between.

Yes, it is that Johnny Cash
"The Eye of the Prophet" is a great book, but the audiobook read by Johnny Cash makes it an even better book. June Carter gave Johnny Cash "The Prophet" (also by Kahlil Gibran) before they married, and it made an impression on him (it's even shown in the 2005 movie, "Walk the Line"). If this book were merely read by Cash, it would be good enough -- his rich voice goes deep. However, it is evident that Cash believed the words he was speaking, and it makes that book even more enjoyable. East meets West, and it's a great synergy!

A Wonderful Perspective
Firstly, Johnny Cash is a wonderful narrator.
This book is similar in structure to "The Prophet". The author gives us a unique view of his feelings about specific topics. I find myself quoting him. eg Comfort - it enters the house a guest, soon becomes the host, and then the master..... very hard hitting stuff. This is a beautiful listen that you will revisit over and over again.
