About this listen

God ordained marriage between a man and a woman for companionship, precreation, and so man would have a "helper suitable." However, God says much more in the Bible about husbands loving their wives than He says about wives submitting to their husbands.

He created marriage to be a picture of the relationship between Christ and the Church. Christ was willing to sacrifice His life for the Church, and God expects no less from husbands today.

The overall purpose of "The Exemplary Husband" is to assist husbands toward purposeful and lasting Christlikeness for the glory of God.

It was written to be the companion book for "The Excellent Wife" by Martha Peace. Foreword by John MacArthur.

I was excited to see this book in audio form. This is an excellent book on biblical marriage, starting from fundamentals of how our beliefs in who man is and who God is (and is not) impacts how we approach marriage to great application of relationships and sanctification directly to marriage. Best read and discussed with others to maximize growth. The study guide is also a great aid to drive the application home.

Must read for every marriage

This book starts strong dealing with the topic of being a husband. Unfortunately, it quickly loses focus and turns into a book focused on sketchy doctrine that would ignore John 3:16 to imply God only loves those who believe rather than "the world" and only wants to "save some" rather than "whosoever should believe." Even John the Baptist announced Jesus was the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of "the world" and scripture says God is not willing that ANY should perish.

Regardless of your view of Calvin's theology, this book was never marketed as a Calvinist theology book...it was billed as a book about being a husband. Maybe it eventually turns into that again, but after 20 minutes or so listening to questionable theology that had nothing to do with the subject I got the book for, I couldn't do it anymore.

Starts strong, but loses focus

The guy reading this is terrible. I can’t stand his cadence. It’s so hard to listen to. It’s like he’s half singing and half reading just read it normally I don’t know what this up-and-down flow is, but it’s so distracting. This guy should never read another book and get a new job.

His voice stinks
