Great info for anyone in a leadership role
I thought there was a ton of good info for leadership and just generally for life in this book. As with most self help type books, this is probably better in print so you can highlight important or lightbulb ideas and refer back to them. But I appreciated being able to listen to it because I’m not one to sit down and read, but I am an avid audiobook listener.
I love the idea of the emotional journal and the emotional intelligence quiz, and I am happy that those are available online.
Throughout the book, I was thinking of how I can apply these principles in my life. I don’t lead a team. I have no direct reports. But I do oversee others in my job - just not as a manager. I deal with people everyday as most people do. And I have kids that I manage. 😆. I appreciated the chapter toward the end about using the Everyday Diplomat strategies in families and everyday life. There are so many good ideas for resolving conflict, making connections, and dealing with people who are different than you. I really liked the chapter about the different generations and tips on how to use their strengths to everyone’s advantage.
I loved the quick review at the end of each chapter. It was like going back over my highlighted sentences and reminding me of the important points.
Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone who leads a team of any sort. I really enjoyed all the personal stories, but I think those with a military background will especially enjoy hearing Michael’s stories about his time in the military. They will have that special connection of having lived through similar circumstances and will surely connect on a deeper level with his experiences. Great book!
