About this listen

He’s dead. She’s deadly. The bad guys don’t stand a chance.

The ninth book in the bestselling Skulduggery Pleasant series.

Following the loss of Valkyrie Cain, Skulduggery Pleasant must track down Darquesse before she turns the world into a charred, lifeless cinder – and so he draws together a team of soldiers, monster hunters, criminals and Valkyrie’s now murderous reflection.

Not everyone gets out of this alive.

Critic reviews

‘With plot twists that had me gasping at Landy’s audacity, whip-smart dialogue, and enough clever popular culture references to impress even the most jaded teenager, this is a world class book not to be missed’ Irish Independent

‘This is a series that has not only maintained incredible entertainment value throughout, but has managed to consistently exceed steadily rising expectations book after book’ The Bookbag

I loved this book!

I’ve been reading the SP series since I was little and they’re just one nonstop thrill ride after another, this book is no exception! I loved it! And in this series the narrators change around A LOT, but I really like the current one.

An amazing story with a great narrator

that end killed me, i went through so many emotions in so little time.

I love Derek Landy, probably one of the best fantasy writers out there. Imwould even dare to state that Landy’s complex plots and character developments can rival even more adult fantasy-fiction writers (looking at you George R. R. Martin) even though Landy writes for YA/children and for me thankfully doesn’t delve into unnecessary gratuitous details of sex of violent scenes.

That being said.... the narrator chosen to read SP series is kind of like the voice equivalent of nails on chalkboard. He knows where to emphasize on the words, but he doesn’t really know how to differentiate his voice from characters, or reflect any real passion or excitement and life into the characters.

I do plan on keeping this only bc audiobooks are 100% lighter than carrying around the book set (hardcover or paperback) but I plan on still purchasing the entire series of books to simply experience pure relief and escapism into the story, but keep the audio for distracting white noise.

Great story awful choice for narrator

multiverse laziness, this character is dead, oh wait no they're not, wish people spent more time talking and developing charter and less time punching each other
