About this listen
Our secret is out, and now we’re marked for death.
A lone survivor escaped the mountain battle, carrying news of our dragons’ existence to the court of Prince Oblisii.
Utrea’s dragons were supposed to have been wiped out long ago. Only these five remain - a male and four females. They’re all that’s left to carry on the species, but first we have to keep them alive.
The prince will come soon with his army, and I’m stuck on a mountaintop with my four knights in tarnished armor. Sometimes, I think these men will be the death of me long before the royal soldiers arrive. Other times, I think they may be my only salvation.
Before the five of us can flee Utrea for safer shores, I’ll have to form a soul-bond with the male dragon. Until then, he’s little more than a wild animal, dangerous, and unpredictable. And without the male, we’re lost, since the future of dragonkind rests on his shimmering white wings.
Yet the idea of the soul-bond fills me with terror. If I bind myself to him, his death would mean my death, just as my death would mean his. Already, the men I love are binding the female dragons one by one, tying their souls irrevocably together. With the others already bound, everything depends on me.
But danger lurks whether I accept that dragon-bond or not. I was already a wanted woman, after I spurned Prince Oblisii and escaped from his harem of concubines. Not only that, but I also fled straight into the arms of a group led by Oblisii’s disgraced older brother - Rathanii, the man who should have been Utrea’s king.
If Prince Oblisii gets hold of me again, death will be the least of my worries.
And the gods only know what the others might do to try and get me back.
The Dragon Mistress by USA Today bestseller R. A. Steffan is a medium-burn fantasy romance series where the heroine doesn’t have to choose one person at the end. It is part of the Eburosi Chronicles, along with The Horse Mistress and The Lion Mistress. It’s not necessary to have read The Horse Mistress or The Lion Mistress arcs before starting The Dragon Mistress books.
A special note for fantasy listeners: Herein, you will find explicit love scenes in several interesting and unconventional permutations, including between men. If your gut reaction to that is “Eww” or even “Meh,” you probably won't enjoy this series.

There’s a smokin’ hot dead guy locked in my garden shed. That part’s bad enough. But now, he’s trying to get out...Growing up, my father always told me that I’d come to a bad end, just like my mom did when I was a kid. Hearing that kind of shit when you’re little eventually gets to a girl, but I can’t say I ever expected my "bad end" to involve an angry vampire with a severe case of iron deficiency and a panty-melting English accent.

Dragons, reverse harem, polyromance and an evil...
Iwas gioven a free copy of this audiobook for the purpose of rating and reviewing. This is a well crafted series yes it does have multi partner sex and m/m sex so if you hate that it is not the book or series for you. I loved the characters and their relationships. I am eagerly awaiting book 4. I enjoyed the author's writing so much I not only got the first volumes of this series I am also ready the prior books in the Eburosi chronicles. If you are a vanilla romance reader who only wants 1 man 1 woman no serious hard core situations like raping bandits torture and imprisonment, this book may scare you. I loved it even though I cried.

Love this series
I absolutely love this series. I was already a fan after reading the horse mistress and the lion mistress, but the Dragon mistress is my favorite so far. Freya is spunky, independent, and knows why she likes/wants. She is a kick butt MC and I lover her mouthy ways. The guys are all different but yet have a vulnerableness in their own way, and Freya soothes them all differently. I can’t wait for more. Gwendolyn Druyor’s narration is phenomenal and she does the characters justice with how well she brings them to life. I absolutely recommend this series and all the Eburosi chronicales books. I was given this book for my unbiased review.

The Best Yet
This is book three of this series but book ten of the overall series and well worth the time to listen! I love RA Steffan's writings. Along with this series I also love The Last Vampire and thoroughly enjoyed Circle of Blood. I have enjoyed "watching" Steffan's writing grow with each story she creates. Not to say her earlier stories are bad, they're just...unpolished. Now she really grabs the attention of her readers/listeners and keeps that attention fluently to the end of each story. This installment has action, adventure, heartbreak, romance, well written steam and some dark moments. I listened to this in one sitting (didn't much else accomplished and growled when forced to pause) because it was that good. Gwendolyn Druyor did her usual awesome job of narrating! I love how she has kept the voices the same from one book to the next as well as keeping the voices from previous series when they make an appearance. She has such talent for voice acting that it really becomes a treat to hear her narrate. She is one of my favorite narrators. I love this series and I recommend it often to my friends. Just make sure to start with book one of each series to get the full effect and total understanding.

Roller-coaster ride of action and emotions
Well, this book is certainly a roller coaster ride from start to finish.
The Dragon Mistress series is one part of the Eburosi Chronicles that include The Horse Mistress and the Lion Mistress. The series can be read alone, but there is more depth to the world if you’ve visited it through the other series. This set specifically deals with the adventures of Frella and four very different men as they try to save the world’s last 4 dragons.
In this specific volume, we have the great on page sex that Steffan is known for (hey, if an author is going to be known for something…) and a rip-roaring adventure to get someone out of prison followed by a daring and really dramatic escape. It’s all you’d want in a fantasy adventure, but do go back to Dragon Mistress book 1 or you’ll be completely lost. As a bonus, we do get brief appearances of the main characters from Horse Mistress and Dragon Mistress. It was really nice to see them again at different ages and still as in love as ever.
As an author, Steffan is growing in writing more traditional action scenes (yes, I could add a sex scene joke here, but this is all you get). I was underwhelmed with the end of The Horse Mistress because the action there, which shifted out of necessity to 3rd person, wasn’t as strong as everything she had leading up to it. Now, though, after several series that have involved combat and prison breaks and various other types of physical action, her scenes are great.
Our series narrator is out there doing the usual fine job. The main characters sound different in pitch, tone, accent, and a variety of ways. Druyor gets to act her heart out while some of the characters reveal their damaged backstory. She joked during the recording of the audio that someone snuck onions in her recording booth, and you can tell by how hard she sells some of the emotional scenes. I was definitely moved as a listener.
In conclusion: Another rollicking tale in a world I like to revisit. The conclusion to this one promises to be exciting. If you haven’t tried this yet, treat yourself! You’ll probably be pleasantly surprised.
