About this listen
Listeners will agree that this touching and dramatic new installment in Alexander McCall Smith’s beloved and best-selling series is the finest yet. In this story, Precious Ramotswe deals with issues of mistaken identity and great fortune against the beautiful backdrop of Botswana’s remote and striking Okavango Delta.
Mma Ramotswe and Mma Makutsi head to a safari camp to carry out a delicate mission on behalf of a former guest who has left one of the guides a large sum of money. But once they find their man, Precious begins to sense that something is not right. To make matters worse, shortly before their departure, Mma Makutsi’s fiancé, Phuti Radiphuti, suffers a debilitating accident, and when his aunt moves in to take care of him, she also pushes Mma Makutsi out of the picture. Could she be trying to break up the relationship?
Finally, a local priest and his wife independently approach Mma Ramotswe with concerns of infidelity, creating a rather unusual and tricky situation. Nevertheless, Precious is confident that with a little patience, kindness and good sense things will work out for the best - something that will delight her many fans.

It is said that a picture may be worth a thousand words, but an old photograph can inspire many more. In this beguiling book, Alexander McCall Smith casts his eye over five chanced-upon photographs from the era of black-and-white photography and imagines the stories behind them. Who were those people, what were their stories, why are they smiling, what made them sad?

Story
In the words of Alexander McCall Smith: "You feel the rocking of the train, you hear the sound of its wheels on the rails; you are in the world rather than suspended somewhere above it. And sometimes there are conversations to be had, which is what the overarching story in this collection is all about. It is a simple device: people brought together entertain one another with tales of what happened to them on trains. It takes place on a journey I frequently make myself and know well, the journey between Edinburgh and London. It is best read on a train, preferably that one."

In this dual collection of short stories, Alexander McCall Smith brings his trademark humor and warmth to inventive tales of spying and vengeance. In one story, a spy dropped deep into enemy territory manages to disguise himself—quite convincingly—as a nun. In another, an invitation to join the Vatican Secret Service sends a prospective operative down a rabbit hole of controversy and confusion. A third story finds an author, on the brink of public ruin, seeing the error of his ways after an act of kindness saves the day.

Britt-Marie can't stand mess. She eats dinner at precisely the right time and starts her day at six in the morning because only lunatics wake up later than that. And she is not passive-aggressive. Not in the least. It's just that sometimes people interpret her helpful suggestions as criticisms, which is certainly not her intention. But at 63, Britt-Marie has had enough. She finally walks out on her loveless 40-year marriage and finds a job in the only place she can: Borg, a small, derelict town devastated by the financial crisis.

Gift to a Safari Guide
As usual, this series continues to amaze. I love the tales of the cattle and the way of life in Botswana. In this one, the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency takes on the task of finding a specific guide who served a deceased American woman in years past. A seemingly unsurmountable task, the two ladies go on the search. The gentle tale is a pleasure to listen to and the way in which they solve the case is brilliant.

Doube Good listening !!!
If you could sum up The Double Comfort Safari Club in three words, what would they be?
Double Good Listening!!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Each character is so well developed. I wish I could meet them in person. In this book Mma Grace Makutsi. Without giving away the plot, I admire her strength and her vulnerability in this story. It is difficult to choose a favorite among characters I would love to know as friends. I would love to go shoe shopping with Grace, we have the same love of shoes. I wonder if she has the same love of purses as I?
What does Lisette Lecat bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
OH MY!!!! She brings EVERYTHING !!!! She breathes the life of Botswana into every word. Her accent, her expressions, and the ability to change between characters makes one think there are more than one narrator. She has a wonderful talent in relating the story and bringing it to life.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, because it is like a wonderful dessert. It would be gone all too soon. Though I do worry about the characters "in between listenings" : )
Any additional comments?
I am very sad that I am so near the end of the series. I guarantee, you will find yourself wanting to visit Botswana by the end of the first book, and looking for travel information by the end of the last!!!

A great book!
I have liked, but not loved all the beginning books in this series, but this one I really loved! I so enjoy this series; I actually enjoy the narrator so much I slow down my speed to 85. For me it really seems to match the easy pacing of what I imagine the character's lives to be. I certainly don't want to rush these stories, they're so rich with character developments, descriptions of surroundings, etc. These books give me such a warm. cuddly, grandma's house weekend feeling that I hate when they end!

What ends up to deal with selfish people
As always the story was lovely and the point of the adventure was how to deal with selfish, nasty, evil people. Who think nothing of others. And even in Africa you see the good and bad of people. But we even all the way across the earth are the same. Precious and all her extended family are to be cherished and loved. Because there is such an enjoyment listening to her adventures and wisdom! Thank you for the true heart with many people even half way across the continent!!!!!

This author is a blessing to our world, and his writings may be the least important aspect of his life, but they are wonderful! He is an intellectual giant and we are fortunate to get to read the ramblings of his thoughts in his fiction, especially the Mma Ramotswe series. Just go ahead and spend the money.
