About this listen

Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett has two cases to contend with, both of them lethal, in the electrifying new novel from the number-one New York Times best-selling author.

Wyoming's new governor isn't sure what to make of Joe Pickett, but he has a job for him that is extremely delicate. A prominent female British executive never came home from the high-end guest ranch she was visiting, and the British Embassy is pressing hard. Pickett knows that happens sometimes - these ranches are stocked with handsome young cowboys, and "ranch romances" aren't uncommon. But no sign of her months after she vanished? That suggests something else.

At the same time, his friend Nate Romanowski has asked Joe to intervene with the feds on behalf of falconers who can no longer hunt with eagles even though their permits are in order. Who is blocking the falconers and why?

The more he investigates both cases, the more someone wants him to go away. Is it because of the missing woman or because he's become Nate's advocate? Or are they somehow connected? The answers, when they come, will be even worse than he'd imagined.

The story was great, very suspenseful, lots of intrigue, and the ending was a setup for The Disapeared sequel pt#2......and I can't wait!

I love a story that keeps me puzzled. Sheridan's addition is a nice touch.

Typically great yarn.

I really enjoyed the characters and location. The story was original with just the right amount of twists and surprises. The profanity was a bit strong a times, fortunately the sexual overtures were minimal.
I look forward to reading his other novels.

My new favorite author

Great story! Especially love the setting, my home, the North Platte Valley. Can't wait for the next book.

The story was great as usual, but someone didn't edit very well. Several names and references to past events in the series were incorrect. I would expect better from such an established publisher.

Great story, Poor editing

Next to last..., but not least. This Joe Picket novel was one of my favorites. C.J. Box always has a unique talent for weaving environmental facts with story line fiction , in all his novels, but this one was especially point on .

Another great Joe Pocket read (listent).

I wish the author would have tied up the loose ends. It was a very engaging story but so many unanswered questions!

Cliff Hanger!

I like the way that Box weaves some of the challenges of rural America into an interesting story. He does a service by reminding us of the darker side of wind energy development. Family characters are well developed in the series.
