Everything is about to change.
Paige Mahoney is outside the Republic of Scion for the first time in more than a decade—but she has no idea how she got to the free world. Half a year has been wiped from her memory.
Her journey back to the revolution soon takes her to Venice, where the Domino Programme has uncovered evidence of a secret Scion plan. Before Paige can return to London, she must help the network unravel the sinister Operation Ventriloquist, which threatens to bring Europe to its knees in weeks.
And it soon becomes clear that the one person who could recover her memories—Arcturus Mesarthim—might also hold the key to thwarting Scion, allowing the revolution to strike an unprecedented blow . . .
With its intricate worldbuilding, slow burn romance, and “complex, ever evolving, scrappy yet touching” (NPR) heroine, the Bone Season series shows Samantha Shannon at the height of her considerable powers.

Story
Hundreds of years after the end of the world, the Appalachian community of Iron Hollow finds itself beset by demons. Such horrors are common these days in the outlands, where most folks die young—if they don’t turn into monsters first. When a legendary knight is summoned to hunt down the latest unearthly beast to haunt their woods, the town’s new oral historian, Shrike, has more reason than most to be concerned. Because that demon was her wife. And while Shrike is certain that May still recognizes her—that May is still herself, somewhere beneath it all—she can’t prove it.

Nothing about Semiramis's upbringing could have foretold her legacy. Born to a woman scorned by Aphrodite and raised as an orphan on the outskirts of an empire, Semiramis was never meant to hold power. But that does not mean she was not made for it. When she meets a young representative of the new Assyrian king a path unfolds before her, one that puts her in the midst of a brutal world and at the heart of two men raised as brothers—one who just happens to be king.

Trapped as a servant in the faeries’ underground kingdom of Mistei, Kenna must help her new mistress undertake six deadly trials, one for each branch of magic: Fire, Earth, Light, Void, Illusion, and Blood. If she succeeds, her mistress will gain immortality and become the heir to Earth House. If she doesn’t, the punishment is death—for both mistress and servant.

Story
Bexley Simon and Sam Farmer aren't detectives, but they play them on TV. Well, played, past tense. The iconic cult hit that was Craven's Daughter ended five years ago, and their friendship died along with it. Fans were disappointed that the pair's legendary chemistry went unfulfilled—and other fans were crushed that the actual spark between actresses Bex and Sam didn't pay off, either. The network never intended for two women to get romantic, in life or onscreen, despite the fans. But the bigger tragedy was the loss of their dear friend, makeup artist Jen Arnot.

My whole life, there was never a place I called my home. Because home wasn't a place to me; it was a person. Three people, to be exact. Everett, Griffin, and Zane. Three boys who always protected me against the harsh reality of our world. That is, until they aged out of the system before me. All the promises that were made were then broken. They left me behind and made a name for themselves as rock stars and never looked back. The next few years left me broken and closed off until it was my turn to leave. I had nothing and nowhere to go. That was until I found High Roller omegas.

Every book in this series is better than the last
I am a huge fan of the narrator, Alana Kerr Collins, and that is how I found my way to Samantha Shannon.
The series is one of my favorites and I can’t wait for the next book which is going to be about another year. Oh well. This was my favorite of the five bone season novels. There are also a couple of Novellas and I’ve read and listened to them all twice except for this book which just came out so I’ve only listened to it once.
Since real life is getting so dystopian, it feels really important to find heroes and heroines in the world of fiction. Samantha Shannon is masterful at creating worlds, and there was no exception in book 5 of The Bone Season.
If you haven’t read the series, I highly recommend reading the entire series or listening to the entire series. You’ll miss a lot if you start with this book. But once you start, you will be hooked.

Another amazing installment!
It’s been a long wait for the fifth book in the Bone Season series, but The Dark Mirror was definitely worth it. Samantha Shannon is a talented world builder, and knows just how to keep you reeling from one emotion to another with each new chapter. And again, kudos to Alana Kerr Collins for a masterful performance. I could never imagine Paige without Alana’s voice. Highly recommend!
