Fulton J. Sheen
About this listen
This classic work by Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen juxtaposes Christ's words in the Sermon on the Mount with his last words on the cross at Calvary. Both the beatitudes and the words from the cross were delivered from a hill, but there are deeper correspondences, revealed and explored here.
The author shows that Jesus opened his mission with the beatitudes at the core of his message and concluded it at Calvary with the event which was the core of his mission. The first announced the good news to the world, while the second reconciled men to God. For example, "Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy" is related to, "This day you shall be with me in Paradise".

Story
Victory Over Vice (1939) is one of several books by Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen exploring the seven last words of Christ during His Crucifixion. In this short work, Archbishop Sheen considers each of the final utterances of Christ from the perspective of one of the capital sins. He demonstrates how each phrase proves the purity of Jesus Christ, and he uses each as an instruction on how we, too, can overcome these mortal vices.

Story
Way to Inner Peace, published in 1954, explores eight different themes on the path to a life of contentment and serenity. By “recognizing our own littleness in comparison to what we ought to be”, we both recognize the greatness of God and find more patience with the faults within ourselves and others. When we overlook good in favor of scandal and misdeeds, we invite these evils into our hearts. When we have the humility to look inward, view our faults with an open eye, and beg God’s help and forgiveness, then we are at our best.

One of Cardinal Ratzinger's most important and widely read books, this volume is a revised second edition with an improved translation and an in-depth preface by the Cardinal. As he states in the preface, since this book was first published over 30 years ago, many changes and significant events have occurred in the world, and in the Church. But even so, he says he is firmly convinced that his fundamental approach in this book is still very timely and crucial for the spiritual needs of modern man.

Story
The saints, the heroes of the Roman Catholic faith, lived lives of holiness, dedicated to serving God. The saints lived at different times in different places throughout history, but they all shared a love of God that has been documented through the teachings of the Church. Today, the saints serve as examples for all Catholics, showing the believers how to lead a more spiritual life. Catholic devotions are particular customs, rituals and practices of worship or in honour of the saints that are in addition to the liturgy of the Catholic Church.

Story
This classic work from Thomas à Kempis, author of The Imitation of Christ, is now available in English for the first time. It is a simple truth that, without the virtue of humility, we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. It simply cannot be done. Just as pride is the root and source of all sin, so is humility, the foundational virtue in which all other virtues must be grounded if they are to bear fruit. Humility is the heartbeat of the saints. It is the virtue that conforms us most closely to Christ.

I cannot listen to the reader of this audio book.
The performance of the narrator is the reason I cannot listen to it. The print edition is excellent and will purchase several copies of the print editions. Perhaps I can find another source for the audio book with another service with a different narrator.

Ruined by narrator
Written version is great. But narrator ruins it with a halting delivery - like they never read it before performing the narration. Another problem: in the first two minutes, there are two very blatant pronunciation issues that would've been solved if the narrator checked: Aquinas is Uh-kwi-nus, not Uh-kwee-nus, and Calvary is NOT cavalry.
