We can not raise a happy child if we are constantly screaming threats at them. No parent sets out to hurt their child, but this type of parenting does just that. To raise a happy child that wants to behave, you need to retrain yourself first. You need to change the way you think and react to their behavior. You need to understand your triggers and heal yourself. Only then you can begin to heal your relationship with your children.

Story
Feelings are not meant to be pushed down or dismissed. Here’s how to make sure your kids know what to do with theirs: If you’re like most parents, one of your primary concerns about your child, aside from their health and safety, is how you can prepare them for adulthood. Qualities associated with emotional intelligence, are a greater predictor of future success than having a high IQ and are very often overlooked. Fortunately, emotional intelligence is something that can be taught and developed, and the ideal time to do it is while your kids are still young.

While there are no bad kids, more often than not, there are also no bad parents. Where parents tend to go wrong lies in their discipline methods. Poor behavior from kids can drive any parent crazy, but reacting based on emotions can be the worst foundation for discipline. So why not try a different approach?

Story
Dr. Neufeld and Dr. Maté explore the phenomenon of peer orientation: the troubling tendency of children and youth to look to their peers for direction—for a sense of right and wrong, for values, identity and codes of behavior. But peer orientation undermines family cohesion, poisons the school atmosphere, and fosters an aggressively hostile and sexualized youth culture. It provides a powerful explanation for schoolyard bullying and youth violence; it is an escalating trend that has never been adequately described or contested until Hold On to Your Kids.

Fantastic book!
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
As with the other book by this author/narrator duo, I really wish I would have found books like this when my son was a baby. I think it would have been very helpful in equipping my wife and I to handle things better with our son. I found a lot of this book insightful and interesting. The section that I think I got the most from is the section on emotional intelligence. EQ and expressing my emotions are things that I have struggled with myself and often feel lost and powerless when my son is experiencing strong emotions. The explanations and suggestions were structured in a way that makes this whole subject a bit more digestible and I feel a little better equipped to better help my son.
The narration is well done. I didn't notice any real problems with the audio, but I feel I got much more out of the PDF than I did from listening.

Very grateful to have found this book!
The Confident Child book has a lot of detail about different confidence issues in children,as well as more general confidence issues can have. The author uses 12 Steps to Boost Your Child's Confidence and giving real life examples of children, examples of what the child's parents could do to help the child articulate the problem they're having and work through it. Jessica Palmer also provides a lot of helpful scenarios in this book to clear our concept about kids confident issue. This is by far and away one of the best books I've read in a long time. Highly recommend it for any types of parents.

Loving this book!
From the first chapter on this book has held a mirror to me in ways that are so uncomfortable, but insightful. Change is very rarely comfortable, so I’m pleased in a way to sit with my discomfort knowing it means there is change taking place.
I know I struggle with confidence issues and Jessica addresses that in Chapter 1. I’m excited about what I’m learning from this book and all of the ways I can apply this knowledge to not only help my children be more confident and independent, but also improve my relationship with them. I feel like there is so much great information here to use as a foundation for my relationship with my children.
The narration feels a little forced, or maybe academic is a better way to describe it. Once I got used to it though it was easier to focus on what was being said, and not the way it was being said. I’m pretty picky about narrators, but overall it’s good.
Thank you Jessica for putting this wonderful content into a book!
