About this listen
Out of the frying pan, into the fire...
Wren thought things were bad when her boyfriend's father tried to frame her for murder. But that was before a hostile army showed up at the city gates, ready to swallow Maradis whole. And before guild members began disappearing one by one - including the Confectioner's Guild's newest Gifted recruit.
Wren, suspecting the king is to blame for the disappearances, undertakes a dangerous investigation that sets her on a collision course with old and new enemies alike. Will she be able to find the missing guild members before tensions boil over into outright rebellion? Or are the guilds willing to go further than she ever realized to rid themselves of the king's tyranny...

Gripping
This series is pretty awesome, and this particular book has extra emotion. There is romantic heartbreak, followed by hope, followed by tragedy, followed by betrayal, followed by reckless “plans” (let’s use that term loosely), and more betrayal, and then more heart wrenching tragedy/betrayal. The last few chapters are particularly action packed and emotional after all the hope that gets down into the story prior to “planning”. At the turning point I literally gasped aloud and said “Nooooo”, and then I couldn’t stop listening because I had to know how it resolved. Now I’ve been up WAY past my bedtime, and I’m desperate for the next book because I need the redemption of some of our characters to happen. I need it. Narration is fabulous, story is gripping, and magic + food will always be a great story premise.

Action packed & full of intrigue & feels
Confectioner's coup has : Political intrigue - with more of Hale, Sable, Wren, Lucas & Callidus... I've come to root for them even more than ever. We even get Hales POV, which was a refreshing and much needed outlook with what was to come in this story.
This sequel starts of with the guild recruiting a new gifted whilst the king is kidnapping the gifted members from every guild meanwhile in the background the threat of the onslaught of The Aprican empire grows.
Asides that we get to see Wren reconciling with Hale, dealing with the kidnappings and struggling with the guild secret as Lucas tries to dive deep into the investigation.
The story felt slow at the start and only picking up when the kidnappings began and there was never a dull moment since then as Wren has to deal both emotionally and practically with threat of Maridus falling and the catipulating of the guilds by both sides.
I'm still reeling from the last 1/3 of the story, the narrator Kesley, has done a good job bringing this story to life and had me teared up at that moment.
Wren wants to save the guild, the gifted members-her friends an her city... But she can't have it all and even with whatever victory she manged the losses leave a scar nevertheless.
(spoiler bit) the only downside would be that there were little of confections involved in this book, when the internal dispute was about getting hands on them after all.
Absolutely love this installment, I usually listen while working but found my self reluctant to stop even after I was done.

Fabulous Story
"Those sons of the Huntress!"
This follows Wren and Hale's POV which is seriously entertaining! There are many legit laugh out loud moments. Though there are some heartbreaking moments too. 🥺
I love Wren. She's so feisty and bold.
I really love all the baking related phrases! They're so creative and funny. This is one of my favorites:
"Leave it to Beckett to be up at 5am as fresh as a blueberry muffin"
A fantastic sequel with lots of action, surprises, and swoonworthy moments. Definitely recommend! 💕
The narrator did a fabulous job! I was impressed with her in certain scenes. She puts a lot of heart into her work and really brings the characters to life.

Simply too delicious to be over!
My goodness, this book blew me out of the water. the story is exact what the author describes it as: Mystery and Intrigue. spiced up with a healthy dose of romance, devestating betrayal, and an unexpected turns, my heart was just ripped out over and over in this incredibly fast-paced second installment of the Confectioner Chronicles. This book may make you cry. It will make you laugh. It will wholly force you to feel the gambit of raw emotions Wren and Hale go through as the two narrators of this story.
once again, the author - Claire Luana and the narrator - Kelsey Navarro managed to bring the story alive. An absolute most for any YA fantasy audiobook lover!

Amazing
I'm enthralled with this story! Romance, betrayal, heartache, mystery, adventure, and a masterful world building! The first book there are threats from an outside Kingdom but they are not the centerpiece until book two when they become entwine with our characters and their fight for their kingdom and freedom from a tyrant king. The power struggle for this Kingdom is twofold, from within and without, bringing a whole new level to the plot!

Fun, Imaginative world!
What a fun series! I enjoyed the story line and creative world. I was very surprised by ask the plot twists! I did not see them coming. And although I did not love a few of the twists, it just adds a layer to the great story. Overall a wonderful, creative world.

Fun Adventure
I really enjoyed this next adventure in the Confectioners Chronicles.
In this novel, Wren wants to get back to backing after barely making away with her life. But that isn't to be. Wren and her guild end up as part of a wedding and, more dangerously a war.
Luana keeps the action going and I enjoyed listening to the tale. The narrator does well with both the action and the characters.
Though the confection took a secondary plot to this tale, I enjoy Wren and her friends so much that I enjoyed seeing them in new and different situations.
I received an audiobook from the author; all opinions are my own.
