About this listen

NAMED A BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR BY Washington Post • NPR • Financial Times • The Guardian • Booklist • New Statesman • Daily Telegraph • Irish Times • Dallas Morning News • Sunday Times • New York Post

"A big, sprawling, ultimately stunning crime tableau."–Janet Maslin, New York Times

"You can't ask for more emotionally moving entertainment."–Stephen King

"One of the best thriller writers on the planet."–Esquire

The explosive, highly anticipated conclusion to the epic Cartel trilogy from the New York Times bestselling author of The Force

What do you do when there are no borders? When the lines you thought existed simply vanish? How do you plant your feet to make a stand when you no longer know what side you’re on?

The war has come home.

For over forty years, Art Keller has been on the front lines of America’s longest conflict: The War on Drugs. His obsession to defeat the world’s most powerful, wealthy, and lethal kingpin—the godfather of the Sinaloa Cartel, Adán Barrera—has left him bloody and scarred, cost him the people he loves, even taken a piece of his soul.

Now Keller is elevated to the highest ranks of the DEA, only to find that in destroying one monster he has created thirty more that are wreaking even more chaos and suffering in his beloved Mexico. But not just there.

Barrera’s final legacy is the heroin epidemic scourging America. Throwing himself into the gap to stem the deadly flow, Keller finds himself surrounded by enemies—men who want to kill him, politicians who want to destroy him, and worse, the unimaginable—an incoming administration that’s in bed with the very drug traffickers that Keller is trying to bring down.

Art Keller is at war with not only the cartels, but with his own government. And the long fight has taught him more than he ever imagined. Now, he learns the final lesson—there are no borders.

In a story that moves from deserts of Mexico to Wall Street, from the slums of Guatemala to the marbled corridors of Washington, D.C., Winslow follows a new generation of narcos, the cops who fight them, street traffickers, addicts, politicians, money-launderers, real-estate moguls, and mere children fleeing the violence for the chance of a life in a new country.

A shattering tale of vengeance, violence, corruption and justice, this last novel in Don Winslow’s magnificent, award-winning, internationally bestselling trilogy is packed with unforgettable, drawn-from-the-headlines scenes. Shocking in its brutality, raw in its humanity, The Border is an unflinching portrait of modern America, a story of—and for—our time.

What listeners say about The Border: A Novel

Highly rated for:

The Audiobook Is Part Of An Engrossing Trilogy That Delves Into The Intense And Brutal Realities Of The Drug War Between The U.s. And Mexican Cartels. While Praised For Its Well-written Narrative, Gripping Storytelling, And Ability To Evoke Intense Emotions, The Final Installment Is Heavily Criticized For The Author's Intrusive Political Bias And Agenda-driven Narrative That Forcefully Draws Parallels To Criticize A Thinly Veiled Trump Character. This Injection Of The Author's Bitter Hatred And Political Views Detracts From The Compelling Saga, Leaving Many Listeners Disappointed With The Direction The Story Takes.

I love these 3 books

If you want to understand our drug war you should add these to your reading. I am changed. My Father was imprisoned in it and I was a victim of the system. I am a victim no more…

Engrossing!

The 3rd in the trilogy. Detailed, comprehensive and engaging. This book (and the two before) are extremely well written. It covers the saga of Art Keller, from his days in Vietnam and the CIA up to the present as director of the DEA. The backdrop is the ongoing drug war in the US as it relates to Mexico and Central America. Some of the characters are psychopaths but some are relatable and sympathetic. I thoroughly enjoyed all three books.

Meh…

Good story but re-hearing so much of the previous book was a little frustrating and confusing.

Great Book - political bias is funny

I’ve read or listened to most of Winslows stuff and it’s mostly great, this book included. A really good ending to a great story. Now do Biden!

Perfection

I cried. I laughed. I felt so many emotions whilst listening. Not sure if I should say it was Ray Porter or Don Winslow but either way, I felt intense emotions that had me so invested until the end.

Bravo! I’m on the edge of my seat awaiting another book in the series. I’ve never been so sad to hear…”epilogue”.

One of the best series I’ve ever read

I rarely leave reviews on books I listen to but this series is extremely well written and gives the listener an in-depth look into the different aspects of the “drug war” in both the U.S. and Mexico. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who’s is a fan of the action/military genre as well as those who enjoy a well thought out story that makes you feel a range of emotions as you listen. Start from book one and enjoy the ride

Masterpiece

Wish it would never end. Ray Porter is my most favorite narrator. Couldn’t stop listening.

Winslow par excellence

Winslow par excellence

Much farther down the road, Winslow paints a story that doesn't disappoint. Ray Porter narrates taut tale with finese.

Description of life below our southern border. I see why they want to escape from that.

Disliked ending for a most sympathetic character. Probably realistic but still pretty sad. Darn.
