About this listen

From 1945 to 1968, witness Quint survive the greatest naval tragedy in history with the sinking of the USS Indianapolis, and the events that bring him to Amity Island where he becomes a legend of the North Atlantic. A descent into one man's struggle with survivor's guilt from war and dealing with the post-traumatic stress inflicted by losing his friends to sharks leads to a psychological battle against a cunning politician and an island that wields a great secret.

I’ve read the book a handful of times so far because there’s just so much detail…however, the audiobook is a completely different experience. This isn’t just narration but more of a play. The brilliant reading and ability to relay the different dialects and accents makes you feel like you’re watching this as a movie. This book is hands down my favorite action story ever written and I feel it’s an even better story than Jaws (movie story)..
This incredible book needs to be made into a motion picture by Spielberg to properly bookmark his career. 10/10

Absolutely phenomenal

While the original Jaws novel by Peter Benchley may have inspired the greatest film ever made, unfortunately, it still reads like pulp mediocrity. It is no wonder Steven Spielberg and Carl Gottlieb had to make daily modifications to keep turning that straw into gold. Ryan Dacko may be a new author, but his research on the original film as well as the detective work he’s done expanding and enhancing the backstory of Quint, Vaughan, and even Amity Island itself, conveys a love and devotion to the subject matter setting up a near perfect prequel that consistently rings true to the 1975 film source material. I had already read the book when it was released in 2024 but am happy to say the audiobook performance by Jonathan Waters brings an atmosphere and depth that improves upon the written word. His character voices – especially of Quint, create vivid images in the listeners mind of a young Robert Shaw brought back to life and again inhabiting this classic character. In short, if you are a Jaws fan (and really, who isn’t?), this is a must read, and when I revisit, it will always be with this audio version. Congratulations Mr. Dacko and thank you! It is well worth the credit and hoping someday, Mr. Spielberg will be inspired by this story to revisit Amity Island once again and give the fans at least one worthy companion piece to the classic original.

Besides the incredible and lyrical writing, the performance was spectacular! That was Quint I was hearing. I love the Easter eggs hidden throughout the story, tipping the hat to the film and screenplay. This needs to be made into a movie. Well done, Dacko and Waters!

Doesn't get much better than this!

A well fleshed out story about easily the most intriguing character in Jaws. This answered many questions about the origin of a man who we only get a glimpse of. The only thing that was relatively grating was when the narrator attempted to mimic a woman’s voice. I don’t know that I can even really pinpoint what exactly it was. Aside from that, I loved the story.
