About this listen

Everyone goes for the jugular. The body of a young lawyer is found in an alley, and the suspicious circumstances of his death arouse Los Angeles PD Detective Desi Nimmo’s interest. As she pursues a complex series of clues of what caused his demise, the trail leads her into a seedy and dark side of LA's porn industry. She must also fend off the rivalry of disgraced Detective Fin McNab, who is desperate to regain his good standing with the brass and will stop at nothing to do so including snatching Desi's cases and investigating her personal past. As she doggedly pursues the case amid McNab’s interference, Desi uncovers a lucrative underground business and a cold-case murder but this is a world that doesn’t appreciate people asking questions. As she gets closer to the truth, Desi’s career - and life - hang in the balance.

This book wasn't great, but it was okay and I listened to the end, actually enjoying it. The narrator has potential, but need more practice, so it seems to me. Desi's voice seemed too little girlish and Fin's voice was just wrong.

Okay

Didn't like the narrator. Hard to stay interested in the story. The writing seemed stilted too

Not my cup of tea

Blood room did not keep me engaged.
The narration was a bit monotone for my taste. It was an okay read.

Okay read.

Good story.Excellent narration. Fast moving police mystery, Reminds you a bit of SILENCE OF THE LAMBS without the deep Hannibal Lector character but with the dogged police detective.

bloody decent

Seemed slow in the beginning and then rushed at the end. No surprises in the protagonists

I almost returned this but I was on a long trip and needed a distraction. It was distracting alright. So far south of what is usually acceptable for a narrator. Was this a family member of the author? Never again. A modicum of acting ability is required for narrating an audio book. It was like listening to someone read the phone book. The “male” voice was particularly painful.

Worst narrator EVER!

Not sure if it was writing or narration but flow was clumsy to the point of distraction for me.

Clumsy

I got bought this audio because of the reviews. The narration is terrible. Her narration is choppy and she can only do one character at a time, if she does a male then all the other characters sound like her regular voice, which is not so great. All adult males talk real slow, she tries for a deep voice. No emotion, no excitement. Seriously blah blah blah.
I kept hoping the story would be so great that I could get past the terrible narration but it didn’t.

What a terrible narrator.

Weird line of casual racism that did nothing to drive the plot and was never mentioned again

Fine for a throw on book

Cop thrillers are my thing and this one did not disappoint.
There is plenty in this story to keep the reader engaged between the new partnership issues, the internal battles of each detective, and the background of the crimes they are working to solve. The twists and turns make sure that you have to listen with a close ear (always a good thing in an audiobook)
Character development is on point, enough to help the reader get into the character's head but not so much that you are buried in detail.
The narration I well done and carries you through the book smoothly. This one left me hoping for a series around these two detectives!!!

Definitely want more of this!
