About this listen
The thrilling conclusion to the New York Times best-selling Lone City trilogy, which began with The Jewel, a book BCCB said "will have fans of Oliver's Delirium, Cass's The Selection, and DeStefano's Wither breathless".
For too long Violet and the people of the outer circles of the Lone City have lived in service of the royalty of the Jewel. But now the secret society known as the Black Key is preparing to seize power.
While Violet knows she is at the center of this rebellion, she has a more personal stake in it - for her sister, Hazel, has been taken by the Duchess of the Lake. Now, after fighting so hard to escape the Jewel, Violet must do everything in her power to return to save not only Hazel but the future of the Lone City.

Story
Princess Annika has lived a life of comfort—but no amount of luxuries can change the fact that her life isn’t her own to control. The king, once her loving father, has gone cold, and Annika will soon be forced into a loveless marriage for political gain. Miles away, small comforts are few and far between for Lennox. He has devoted his life to the Dahrainian army, hoping to one day help them reclaim the throne that was stolen from them. For Lennox, the idea of love is merely a distraction—nothing will stand in the way of fighting for his people.

"Ninety-five days, and then I'll be safe. I wonder whether the procedure will hurt. I want to get it over with. It's hard to be patient. It's hard not to be afraid while I'm still uncured, though so far the deliria hasn't touched me yet. Still, I worry. They say that in the old days, love drove people to madness. Story
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

WAY BETTER THAN TYPICAL YA ROYALTY
This is the 2nd time I’ve read this series and it’s even better! A good book re-read is like coming home to visit all your favorite people (the characters) again! I’ve tried to muddle through YA royalty series like The Princess Games, but they do not hold a candle to The Jewel series. Classic YA with an original storyline, a phenomenal narrator, and well-developed characters (Garnett and Lucian). What more could you want in life? Do yourself a favor and read this series if that’s what you are seeking. It’s well worth adding and keeping in your Audible library!

Amazingly written as always
Would you listen to The Black Key again? Why?
Yes! I have already actually! 3 times!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Lucien - I just loved him from the very beginning.
Have you listened to any of Erin Spencer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Only her performances with the Jewel series. I love her, she does an amazing job and the words just flow which makes the whole experience that much better. I will be listening to more of her books.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Lucien. Thats all I'm going to say so I don't ruin it.
Any additional comments?
This is an amazing dystopian series, one of the best I’ve had the pleasure of reading. The story line is addictive. The first book The Jewel, you learn about the characters and this world they live in and what is expected from them. The White Rose you learn who the characters really are as the come into themselves and their abilities. The final book, The Black Key, breaks your heart into a million pieces and builds it back together again and makes you hold your breath! It was an amazing ending to an amazing series. The story follows them from the Jewel to the White Rose and now back to the Jewel for the grand finale with the Black Key. Violet has grown a lot since the first book, when in reality the time has only been a few short months for them. Violet returns to the Jewel, looking like a new person, to save her little sister, Hazel from the Duchess of the Lake. The twists and turns in the book are never ending in a good way. You are always on your toes wondering what will happen next. This was such an amazing ending. I wish we could have seen a little from Ash's perspective. Maybe as a companion novel to the series? Pun totally intended!

Satisfying Ending
This was a very nice conclusion to a good series. I really liked the protagonist in the story. She was strong without being annoying and bossy. I like how kind she was and the connection she made with the people around her.
There were a few sad parts in the book and a lot of surprises.

WAY TO BE #3
A great conclusion to Violet's saga. I am sure it reminds those who have read the "Hunger Games" series of the same feeling story wise. I think Violet and Katniss should meet for coffee but their little sister's should pay for it LOL. I will read more of Amy Ewings books. Very enjoyable and good ending to tie everything up for the readers
