About this listen
The first section explores the central doctrines of Baptist faith, beginning with the authority of Scripture. Baptists hold to sola Scriptura, the belief that the Bible alone is the inspired and authoritative guide for faith and practice. The doctrine of salvation is also covered, emphasizing justification by faith, the new birth, and the assurance of salvation in Christ. The author carefully outlines these essential truths, demonstrating how they form the foundation for a true Christian life.
The second section covers Baptist distinctives, the beliefs that set Baptists apart from other Christian denominations. The doctrine of believer’s baptism by immersion is explored in detail, explaining why baptism is for those who have made a personal profession of faith. This section also addresses church autonomy, the priesthood of the believer, and the separation of church and state—key principles that define Baptist polity and practice. The author highlights the biblical and historical reasons for these distinctives and provides a solid theological basis for why they are integral to the Baptist identity.
The third section tackles some of the more difficult and controversial doctrines within Baptist theology, such as the sovereignty of God, the nature of the Church, and eschatology. The author presents a well-reasoned defense of the Pre-Tribulation Rapture, explaining why this view is consistent with Scripture and Baptist tradition. The nature of the Church is also explored, particularly its role in God’s redemptive plan and the responsibilities of believers within it. The section on eschatology addresses the distinctions between Israel and the Church, offering a framework for understanding the biblical timeline and the ultimate fulfillment of God’s promises.
Throughout the book, the author draws on key figures in Baptist history and important Baptist confessions, such as the London Baptist Confession of 1689. These references help to ground the reader in the historical development of Baptist beliefs and provide context for the doctrines being discussed.
The Baptist Foundation is an essential guide for anyone seeking to understand Baptist beliefs and practice. Whether you are a layperson looking to grow in your faith, a pastor seeking sound doctrine for teaching, or a student of theology needing a resource for study, this book provides the necessary framework for understanding the biblical truths that form the foundation of the Baptist tradition.
This work challenges readers to not only grasp the doctrines of the faith but to live them out in their daily lives. It encourages believers to build their faith on the unshakable foundation of God’s Word, understanding the distinctives of Baptist faith and practicing them with confidence.
The Baptist Foundation is a scholarly yet accessible resource that will enrich personal study, church teaching, and theological education. It serves as a call to embrace and faithfully pass on the biblical truths that have been handed down through generations of Baptists, ensuring that the next generation is equipped to stand firm in their faith.
Through The Baptist Foundation: Foundations for Faith and Practice, Marvin McKenzie provides an accessible, yet deeply scholarly exploration of Baptist doctrine that will challenge readers to grow in both their knowledge and their walk with Christ.

Excellent in depth study of the Baptist Faith
This work was decidedly and unapologetically Baptist. I love the fact that the author stands firm on his convictions and then systematically backs them up with the Bible. Thank you for taking a stand for the King James Bible and the truths within it, which we hold so dear. I am going to share this with anyone who will listen. Thank you.
