“Roald Dahl sometimes shared a tonal kinship with Ogden Nash, and he could demonstrate a verbal inventiveness nearly Seussian... [His] stories work better in audio than in print.” (The New York Times)

Captured by a giant!

The BFG is no ordinary bone-crunching giant. He is far too nice and jumbly. It's lucky for Sophie that he is. Had she been carried off in the middle of the night by the Bloodbottler, or any of the other giants - rather than the BFG - she would have soon become breakfast. When Sophie hears that the giants are flush-bunking off to England to swollomp a few nice little chiddlers, she decides she must stop them once and for all. And the BFG is going to help her!

Now a Steven Spielberg film!

Critic reviews

"Versatile British actor David Walliams pulls out all the stops from his vocal repertoire to create a romping narration of this children's classic. There’s no voice too big or too small for him.... The four-plus hours whiz by with whimsy and inspired fun. Whether you’re a child or a child at heart, you’ll have a wopsy, splendiferous time." (AudioFile Magazine)

Where was I growing up? I never read books like this and I wonder how I missed it. I enjoy reading a variety of genres -- and I wanted to read this before the movie. I now know where dreams come from and why my dreams are so bizarre. Enjoyed this book and would recommend to anyone young at heart.

Enjoyed it!

I had heard of Roald Dahl from a TV show in the '70s or so, but never read his books. My daughter requested this as the next audiobook for our drives to school. Her teacher had read it to the class. My son hadn't heard it.

It may be a bit too gruesome for preschoolers, but 8-year-olds love scary stories. The plot contains the right mix of humor, and the plethora of hybridized words--nearly every sentence spoken by The BFG contains one or more--forces you to pay attention to every word.

Great story to listen to with your second-graders
