She is a heroine I can really like - brave, resilient, intelligent, and unapologetic. Stephen is a fascinating hero. He has principles & integrity, whether he is acting as dangerous pirate, an arrogant English lord, or a Jesuit priest. The plot is far from predictable.
The only negatives were the lack of an epilogue, and the narrator/sound quality.

I love a good well written story and this one was certainly that. For a virtual voice narration it was good. A lord, a clergyman or maybe a pirate Stephen had a lot of secrets but the chemistry between him and the heroin was passionate. A most entertaining listen. Would definitely recommend.

Great Story

What a duo! The story was amazing and had me from the beginning to the end. Not your typical ball room socialite story. Would have loved to read it in print, but when Anna narrates, I’m consumed! I will read any book Anna Parker-Naples narrates! I am continuing the series because she is reading them! I have so many cleaning and house projects done because of this! Katherine Ashe has written amazing stuff and with Anna Parker-Naples narrating, I am officially addicted! <3

AH-mazing Narrator and story!

The sexual tension is beyond ridiculous and borders on a mix of comedy and offense.

And I’m not a sticker for accuracy, but a trampy heroine is so far outside of “period correct” that this story is unlistenable. In short, it’s dumb.

What Even Is This Story?

It took 3 attempts to make it through the book. The story lacks substance. Halfway through the book I still had no idea what the point was other than 2 people wanting to screw. I couldnt stand the MCs, especially the FMC, geez she is conceited. The voice the narrator used for her made her sound like a ditz. It was like fingernails on a chalkboard. The romance entirely missing. There is nothing soft, or sweet, or touching. Just wambam & poof at the end theor in love 🙄 The story I think was sypposed to be about thrawrting slavers but mostly, it different ways to detail his burning loins & beyond that it was mostly dull. The "exciting" moments were meant to shock and titillate but I found those parts so over the top they were stupid. It reminded me of when Joey from Friends described his part in a porn movie. He said I was supposed to fix the copier but people were having sex on it so all I could do was watch. 😆 🤣 😂 😹 In reading this book I rolled my eyes so often & so hard I almost hurt myself. The narrator's outrageously dramatic portrayal of these parts didn't help matters. She made it sound so silly that I was either laughing or cringing. You know the book is bad when you are hoping the couple won't have another sexual interlude. ha!
No I can't recommend this book. I'm stupefied by the highly rated reviews but maybe they were just hoping to.get off. Me, I want to be wined dined and entertained. Unfortunately this book falls woefully short.

Dumb like a porn movie

Plus terrible narrator. I had high hopes for Katharine Ashe especially with Lisa Klepas’ seal of approval. What a disappointment. Will try a later book of Ashe’s before I give up completely but not one with this narrator.

Dull sophomoric effort

This story could have been 10 chapters shorter. It dragged like a shipping with no sail.

The heroine was brave and smart, but she was too much for me. She refused to leave the hero alone. She kept seeking him out for sex.

Not That Great
