About this listen

The only thing worse than letting him in is the thought of letting him go.

Jackson

If there’s one thing I don’t need upsetting my quiet and comfortable routine in the small town of Darling, Montana, it’s newcomer Ash Alcott crash landing on my family’s ranch like some sort of blonde angel.

I don’t need his flirting. Or his smile. I don’t need the way he makes me question whether or not I’m truly happy being alone at forty. I certainly don’t need to be giving him riding lessons or appreciating the meals he cooks for the ranch.

The man is dangerous for my equilibrium. And he could up and leave at any given moment, tiring of this way of life. It’s happened before.

No, I’m better off ignoring the way he looks at home in a new pair of boots and how my family and the ranchers all adore him. Ash may have brought some sunshine into our lives, but it’s best he learn sooner rather than later…

Ain’t nothing sweet about being saddled with a cowboy like me.

Sweet Like Whiskey is a grumpy/sunshine, small town romance between a stubborn cowboy and the optimistic out-of-towner who’s determined to win him over. There’s ranch life, close-knit family dynamics, gorgeous mountain views, moonlit shenanigans in a hayloft, and one very HEA. It’s book 1 in The Darling Brothers series but can be listened to as a standalone.

I read this book last year when it was released and loved it. I giggled a few times and had a big smile on my face. I adore Ash and Jackson. I was so excited for the audiobook and thank goodness the narrator was Kale Williams. He did a great job. So worth the credit I used; deff recommend.

This book makes me happy

This book was so sweet. I can't. Why was it so sweet? No, seriously, what was the reason for it to be this freaking sweet? It got me all emotional and sht.

I LOVE IT. LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT.

Oh, and these damn Darling brothers... they don't make'em like this where I'm from... what a shame.

Sweet like whiskey is a second chance in a way. A second chance at love, at life, at happiness.

Ashley went through a break-up and decided he needed a change, or was it more like need? I think it was more like need. I think his heart knew better and led him to his other half... all the way to Daling. With 2 suitcases and a beat-up truck, he took his power back and followed the path to his soulmate.

Jackson Darling is exactly that, a darlin'. The sweetest men known to humanity hidden away behind all those scowls and growls. He is a sweet soul who lost himself. He is lonely, even tho' he is surrounded by people. It's like he was living in the dark, in a way, but all that changed when Ash walked into his life and made it bright again. His Ash, his sunshine.

The tension and chemistry between these two could be felt right away. You have to be blind not to see it.

I loved how Ashley knew from the first moment he laid eyes on Jackson that he was the best kind of trouble and how he went after what he wanted without second-guessing himself. I love how patient he was with Jack, how he understood his past and tried to build from that. I loved how mature he was. Jack never stood a chance.

Their story is simple, they see each other, fall in love, live happily ever after, but not only that, but in it's simplicity lies a lesson... you never give up. You keep fighting, keep living, and keep searching. Trust you'd heart and your instinct, and you'll find yourself living the life you were meant to, happy, loved. Oh, there's so much love in this book. The quiet type of love. It might not work for everyone, but it sure did for Jack and Ash, and I'm happy they got their HEA. They both deserve it.

Onto the next one now, I can't wait to see how Darling and King will solve their differences. Will Colton listen to Ash's advice or...?

Anyway, 10/10 for Sweet like whiskey. Sweet, funny, cute, wholesome, lovely. Highly recommend.

Loved it. Absolutely loved it.

What I enjoyed most about this books is that There was little to no angst. The author wrote a grumpy/sunshine love story that didn't have an excess of negativity or rejection . It was paced as it likely would be in reality(kinda) as two people fall in love and learn to move past unhealthy life motivators . The end was too sappy for a bitter hag like me lol but it truly is worth the time and money. You should buy it !!

Very good !

This was a really sweet very low angst read. while I enjoyed it as background entertainment, I never felt that engaged. It was just a little too fluffy for my mood, I think. I think I rated the book higher the first I read it but this go around I felt pretty bored.

Kale Williams is a favorite narrator of mine, and he does slow drawl voices perfectly. In this instance though, it highlighted how little tension there was in the story. I felt like Jackson's past with Otto, while frequently mentioned, wasn't really portrayed enough to justify how much it affected Jackson.

it felt like both men fell in love quite easily but then didn't say it to each other for forever for no real reason. I never really enjoy chronic pain as a character point, but since there was a warning about it, I feel like I can't really consider it in my review. I just wanted to mention it because it comes up a lot, so be mindful of that TW if it's upsetting to you.

Overall, this was a sweet and simple romance in a very idealized setting. if you need something light and easy with plenty of ranch life fantasy, this book is for you! if you want more action or tension, it'll probably be a bit boring.

I am very excited for the next book though. The rivals to lovers set up is definitely going to make it more of a bumpy ride and I'm here for it!

sweet but a little slow
