About this listen

What would you do to protect your family? Keep a secret. Tell a lie. End your life?

Five years after botching the Gabriel Wheeler abduction case, Detective Harvey Sam faces the second major case of his career. An asthmatic mother, Gillian, eats peanut butter before surgery - and dies on the operating table as planned. Her suicide ends an abusive affair and is meant to provide for her family through a malpractice settlement. Instead, Gillian’s husband, her teenage son, and a doctor with a multiple personality disorder must flee for their lives. They are pursued by the doctor’s husband, the psychopathic lover who drove Gillian to her death.

Strange Lineup explores power imbalances between men, women, and children and the alternative realities some young victims create to survive. Both as a stand-alone novel and as second audiobook in the Missing & Exploited suspense series, Strange Lineup delivers intense psychological suspense.

The characters in this story are fully developed and quite compelling, but some of the actions taken by them are illogical and a little too obviously contrived to build suspense and extend the story. The results are successful -- the story is certainly suspenseful.

Again, Kevin Clay's performance is outstanding. It's consistent with his narration of the previous audiobook in this series.

NOTE: I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

A little contrived but suspenseful
