About this listen

Opinionated, rebellious, and a tad disorganized, teacher Ember Donner-Mills never imagined herself stuck in the stifling confines of a JoyMart office. But here she is, waiting not for a truant student, but for her own reckoning. Caught shoplifting, Ember's facing a one-way ticket to jail. Enter Officer Jacob Jones, as tough as the concrete he walks on. Will he be the force that straightens out Ember's crooked path, or will she lead him astray with her fiery charm?

In this tale of opposites colliding, Ember and Jacob's journey isn't just about law and order it's a slow dance of unexpected connections, building tension with every glance and every touch. As their bond deepens and their desires ignite, they find themselves teetering on the edge of something more, a love neither saw coming. Prepare for a slow burn. Because when Ember and Jacob collide, the sparks fly, and the heat rises... but their story is just beginning.

Note for listeners: Mature story for adults only, sensual romance/ 2.5 spice level with a Happy For Now Ending.

Just when I was really getting into the characters and the rhythm of the story, it ended! I was so disappointed, only because I wasn’t ready to leave Ember and Jacob behind. That said, it definitely put A. Adeshile on my radar. She’s a new author to me, and I really liked her writing style, smart, snappy, and full of personality.

The story itself is a fun opposites-attract, slow-burn romance with some great chemistry between the leads. Ember is messy, bold, and a bit of a wild card, while Officer Jacob is all structure and discipline, until, of course, Ember starts to shake that up. Their connection grows in a believable, tension-filled way that had me invested from the beginning.

I listened to the audio version, and the narrator was fantastic, she really brought the characters to life and added another layer to the experience. I just wish there had been more! I’ll definitely be on the lookout for the next one, because this felt like just the beginning of a much bigger story.

I was gifted this Audiobook from the author through Story Origin. I really enjoyed Ember and Jacob's story. I give it 4 stars only bc it is not their complete story. He's a cop and always on high alert. She's a teacher with a heart of gold. You can't help but love them. The narrator, CB Parkes, really made this story for me. Presented in dual perspectives, she doesn't really perform the characters, but she somehow gives them their own enhanced personalities. I recommend this book bc of these two qwerty characters. I loved the snappy dialogue.

Two strange but loveable characters.

I was entertained by this story. I admired Ember's drive to help others, but there were times when she prized her independence too assiduously. I liked Jacob Jones as he was honorable, and I respected his profession. I enjoyed their snappy dialogue. I thought the story ended abruptly, and I wasn't aware until the end that the next book would pick up more of Ember's and Jacob's story. I thought CB Parkes' narration was good, and her performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.
