About this listen
With massive debt, a communist mother-in-law, a Shakespeare-quoting parrot, and a photojournalist boyfriend who may or may not be a spy, crafts editor Anastasia Pollack already juggles too much in her life. So she’s not thrilled when her magazine volunteers her to present workshops and judge a needlework contest at the inaugural conference of the New Jersey chapter of the Stitch and Bake Society, a national organization of retired professional women. At least her best friend and cooking editor Cloris McWerther has also been roped into similar duties for the culinary side of the 3-day event taking place on the grounds of the exclusive Beckwith Chateau Country Club.
The sweet little old ladies Anastasia is expecting to meet are definitely old, and some of them are little, but all are anything but sweet. She’s stepped into a vipers’ den that starts with bribery and ends with murder. When an ice storm forces Anastasia and Cloris to spend the night at the Chateau, Anastasia discovers evidence of insurance scams, medical fraud, an opioid ring, long-buried family secrets, and a bevy of suspects. Can she piece together the various clues before she becomes the killer’s next target?

Stitch, Bake, Die!
I really enjoyed this story. It kept me guessing. The characters were interesting. It made me hungry for cake. Anastasia is sure getting good at this murder-solving business.

Don't want to belong to this group of women
7/20/2024
I listened to this book and thoroughly enjoyed the story all over again. I liked that Lucille was just a mention and she's off doing other things. This gives the family a break even though the story centers on Cloris, Anastasia, and the horrid people at the convention.
I liked the local detective, Detective Spader & Zach offering advice.
The narrator, Alexandra Bitton-Bailey, did a wonderful job which only enhanced my enjoyment. Bravo!
I recommend this book whether you read or listen to it. The series has kept me entertained over the years.
My first review of the book.
January 5, 2022
Crafts editor Anastasia Pollack and her best friend and cooking editor Cloris McWerther are tapped to give three one hour lectures and three hands on presentations each to a secluded group of convention goers.
Both find the short notice a little questionable but off they go. This group is scary and evil.
A death occurs and they are off to solve it. There are plenty of twists and turns. Pretty sad when you discover the why and who is involved.
I found the crafting tips at the end of the book helpful for anyone that cross stiches or would like to learn to cross stitch.

Lois Winston’s books never disappoint!
I just loved this story! Once again, Anastasia Pollack kept me entertained, interested and curious to learn more. Lois Winston’s characters have a great sense of humor and the mystery keeps me wondering until the very end! I’ve recently discovered Audible books and love to listen to them while I knit. You cannot go wrong with any of the Anastasia Pollack books!

Powerful women
What was supposed to be a last minute conference turns into nightmare as things turn deadly. Trouble never cease to follow Anastacia as she battles with elderly women who do not like to lose as a killer is on the loose. Action packed antics that never fail to disappoint. A light hearted murder where everyone is a suspect.

A Convoluted Mystery
I enjoyed the tenth book in this series as much as the other books. I admired the worldbuilding of the exclusive country club which was the setting for this book. I found the mystery to be intricate and convoluted enough to keep my interest. I liked the main characters. I thought the interactions of the country club members were sometimes humorous, and sometimes I was shocked at their rivalries. I thought Alexandra Bitton-Bailey's narration was easy to follow, and her performance added to my enjoyment of the story. I was gifted a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without any financial gain, to leave a review which included my honest opinions regarding this story.

Anastasia Crafting Mystery
Interesting characters, humorous dialog, and non-stop action. Enjoyed story very much! Recommend following this series in chronological order, but not necessary. This audiobook was provided by the author and I am giving an honest review.
