About this listen

Across the galaxy, the Clone Wars are raging. The Separatists, led by Count Dooku, the onetime Jedi and now secret Sith Lord, continue to press forward, and more and more worlds are either falling, or seceding and joining the cause. Under the leadership of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, the Republic heroically battles on, championed by its huge army of cloned soldiers and their Jedi generals.

Anakin Skywalker, believed by some to be the prophesied “Chosen One” destined to bring balance to the Force, is now a Jedi Knight under the tutelage of his Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Death is a constant possibility - and his chances of survival aren’t improved by the unexpected arrival of an apprentice: Ahsoka, a brash, inexperienced 14-year-old Padawan apprenticed to Anakin. But there’s no time for Anakin to question his latest orders: He and Obi-Wan have been assigned a new mission, and failure is not an option.

Jabba the Hutt’s precious infant son has been kidnapped, and when the frantic parent applies to the Jedi for help, it falls to Anakin, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, and their clone troops to track down the evidence and retrieve the missing Huttlet. And more is at stake: For a grateful Jabba just might allow the Republic access to the Hutt-controlled space lanes that the Grand Army desperately needs in order to beat the Separatists into submission.

But the Republic is not the only power that craves access to those space lanes. Count Dooku, determined to win the prize for the Separatists, has set a trap for the Jedi. When they find the Huttlet, they will also find Dooku’s master assassin, Asajj Ventress, and countless legions of battle droids waiting to spring a trap.

The blazing new animated feature film Star Wars: The Clone Wars takes place in the years preceding Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and sets the stage for the groundbreaking TV series. Both contain all original material - direct from the brilliant imagination of legendary Star Wars creator George Lucas. And these exciting new adventures and characters are being brought to life in audiobook form by none other than number one New York Times best-selling Star Wars author Karen Traviss.

Great story!

I thought this was a really good story. Worth the read. Loved 'hearing' the thoughts of Anakin. This is the beginning of the sweet friendship between Anakin and Ahsoka.

NO WORRIES!!!! THIS IS NOT ACTUALLY ABRIDGED!!!!

Y'all... I went on a quest to find out if this book was actually abridged or not and it's NOT!!!! I even emailed audible about this and they told me it WAS. I went in, bought the kindle ebook and followed along while I listened to the audio!! There were some minor differences (I imagine made in editing), but these are the same book. Nothing is cut out from the audio vs. the kindle ebook. SMH! I will email audible about this again, because I hate picking up abridged books from audio. I want the full thing!!

Anyways, here is my mini-review down below!

Ugh... I love my boys ❤️

I literally don't even care that I've already seen the shows (and am now rewatching the clone wars), seen the Star Wars clone wars movie multiple times, rewatched the prequels a million times... I will never get enough of this era or seeing more of Anakin's POV. I JUST LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!!!!

I mean... what is there to say??? If you love the show and the movie, this is a good read. It follows the move really well, but as always the books are able to expand and elaborate on some things you just can't in the show/films. There's a lot of inner dialog and reflection that I just love because I love to be inside the heads of my favorite characters. We get a lot of Rex and Anakin in this one, which is always so fun.

I've read Anakin's POV in enough books now that none of it is new, but I just love to see him angst and brood. 🤣 what can I say???

Lots of great moments in this book. From Rex pondering about the war and watching his brothers die, to Anakin's true thoughts and feelings regarding risking his life and his men's lives in order to save a Hutt, to his brushes with the darkside... Loved this so much!! I am excited to get into the other clone wars books Ms. Traviss wrote.

Also.. narrator was pretty good! Loved him in Wild Space. He did pronounce some names wrongs (such as Asajj), but not a super big deal. He does a GREAT Obi-Wan!

Enjoyed Hearing The Movie As a Novel

Enjoyed hearing The Clone Wars movie done as a novel, adding extra dimension not shown in the movie. But it was a bit annoying to hear the narrative change pronunciations of some of the main characters. But the biggest drawback was that all clones sound the same, except for "99" and the clones of Clone Force 99, but in this narrative they had different voices.

Otherwise I liked it!

Jeff Gurner is the Clone Wars

This is a great “read” dealing with the Clone Wars series and it wouldn’t be the same without Jeff in the pilots seat. His character voices for the characters are spot on. It’s easy to forget it’s not the actual actors reading for their own Characters.

Traviss Turns Mediocre Movie Into A Stellar Novel

I am a huge fan of the Clone Wars era and the 2008 -2020 animated series, but like many, I found the initial movie to be quite lackluster. It was merely an arc (and a not very good one at that) made into a movie/pilot episode, with rather dated and rough models. Even hardcore Ahsoka fans found her annoying at her introduction, and all-around it wasn't a good start.

However, Karen Traviss impresses by adding character depth, interesting dialogue and interaction, and teachable moments to the mix, and it comes out as one of the more entertaining Star Wars audiobooks I've had the pleasure of listening to. Ahsoka feels genuine as a character, and grows throughout the adventure, and Anakin has more layers of depth through his struggle post-AOTC. Even Ventress and Dooku had interesting internal monologues that kept me engaged.

Holy moley, Jeff Gurner. This is the first time I've heard him as a narrator, and he was phenomenal. Each character voice was distinct, and you know it's good when female voices are unique from those of the male characters. His Obi-wan, Yoda, and Palpatine voices are spot on (or extremely close), and Ahsoka's voice seemed childish and genuine. Jeff Gurner has been added to my favorite narrators, alongside Marc Thompson and Jonathan Davis, and I hope he gets more Star Wars work down the road.

Better than the movie

The same story as the movie, the performance was great and Yoda's voice was one of the best I've heard, but I think the book (just like the movie) went on to long.
