About this listen
Younger star and LGBTQIA+ advocate Nico Tortorella investigates love, sex, gender, addiction, family, fame, and fluidity through their personal story and the lens of their nonbinary identity.
"Nico Tortorella embodies the twenty-first-century human." (RuPaul)
Nico Tortorella is a seeker. Raised on a steady regimen of Ram Dass and raw food, they have always been interested in the more spiritual aspects of life. That is, until the desire for fame and fortune eclipsed their journey toward enlightenment and sent them into a downward spiral of addiction and self-destructive behavior. It wasn’t until Nico dug deep and began to examine the fluidity of both their sexuality and gender identity that they became more comfortable in their own skin, got sober from alcohol, entered into an unconventional marriage with the love of their life, and fully embraced a queer lifestyle that afforded them the opportunity to explore the world outside the gender binary. It was precisely in that space between that Nico encountered the diverse community of open-minded, supportive peers they’d always dreamed of having.
Expanding on themes explored on their popular podcast, The Love Bomb, Nico shares the intimate details of their romantic partnerships, the dysfunction of their loud but loving Italian family, and the mingling of their feminine and masculine identities into one multidimensional, sexually fluid, nonbinary individual. Nico has become a leading voice of the fluidity movement by encouraging open dialogue and universal acceptance. Space Between is at once an education for listeners, a manifesto for both the labeled and label-free generations, and a personal memoir of love, identity, and acceptance.

Whether she’s playing an “age-defying” book editor on television or dazzling audiences on the Broadway stage, Sutton Foster manages to make it all look easy. How? Crafting. From the moment she picked up a cross stitch needle to escape the bullying chorus girls in her early performing days, she was hooked. Cross stitching led to crocheting, crocheting led to collages, which led to drawing, and so much more. Channeling her emotions into her creations centered Sutton as she navigated the significant moments in her life and gave her tangible reminders of her experiences.

There is absolutely no logical reason why I am here. The life trajectory my nationality and class and circumstances portended for me was not even remotely close to the one I now navigate. But logic is a science and living is an art. The release I felt in writing my first memoir, Not My Father’s Son, was matched only by how my speaking out empowered so many to engage with their own trauma. I was reminded of the power of my words and the absolute duty of authenticity.

What does “Give them Lala” mean? It means giving the truest, most honest version of yourself to the world. It means being authentic, bold, adventurous, and having an unapologetic approach to life. Hollywood is where Lauren Burningham, aspiring actress from Utah, fully embraced her alter-ego Lala Kent, entrepreneur, entertainer, and film and television star. Some say she’s rude; Lala says she claps back. Some say she’s too bold; Lala knows she’s reality TV gold. Truth is, without giving them Lala, Lauren could never have become the woman she is today.

Story
Traveling across millennia, weaving the experiences and world views of cultures both extinct and extant, The Invention of Yesterday shows that the engine of history is not so much heroic (battles won), geographic (farmers thrive), or anthropogenic (humans change the planet) as it is narrative. Many thousands of years ago, when we existed only as countless small autonomous bands of hunter-gatherers widely distributed through the wilderness, we began inventing stories - to organize for survival, to find purpose and meaning, to explain the unfathomable.

Critic reviews
"Space Between is honest, insightful, and poetic. This book encourages a new dialogue around humanity, sexuality, and gender identity that has been missing from the conversation. Each page inspires the reader to reflect and challenge their own biases, while gently championing self-growth and the respect of others." (Karamo Brown)
"Not only does Space Between answer many questions about what it means to live outside the gender binary, Nico Tortorella’s memoir is the ultimate inspiration for people to fully accept themselves, no matter how challenging it can be. By sharing their voyage toward realizing their own sexuality and identity, Nico empowers LGBTQ youth and grows acceptance for the LGBTQ community." (Anthony Ramos, GLAAD)
"Nico Tortorella’s Space Between captures the zeitgeist with their groundbreaking exploration of identity, authenticity, and vulnerability. It is a beautifully written account of what it means to live a life with courage." (Darren Star)

We Are Sick As Our Secrets!
I had watched all 7 seasons of "Younger" in one week because I fell in love with Josh played by Nico. His eyes, mouth & voice...how he walked, talked and loved Liza all were intoxicating. He felt like home to me and I was not sure why.
I recognized Nico from a tattoo show on FB TV as well & decided to listen to this audio book and I just finished it.
I hated it & loved it. (Sobbing)
I hated how his father abandoned them but remember he abandoned his first family/wife too! Patterns suck!
I hated the lack of unconditional support of Nico's family... my son came out to me 2 years ago because I asked him, and I told him I am his #1 fan and I want him to live his authentic self always!
I absolutely hate all of the drug use in this book. The denial of drug addiction is not surprising because alcoholics are manipulators. They are very good at trying to justify their behavior and when they are as sexy hot as Nico..people will believe anything they say. I come from a very long line of alcoholics & drug abusers so I can see manipulation from far away and all of this book is just that.
We are sick as our secrets and being in denial of being addicted to pot, mushrooms and the Peru herbal drinks is a very dangerous mindset. If it is mind alternating, numbing and cause behavior that is not in control it is an issue.
I beg of you to seek rehab and stop all drugs please! For your future children's sake please. Children can have serious health issues born addicted.
It is wonderful you are sober for 6+ years now but all the other substances must also be stopped!!! It can't be sober without quitting all substances.
I wish I could sit with Nico with a cup of coffee and tell him I love him... I love him because he is home... I always fall in love with alcoholics... it is what I have always known even without knowing yet. It's like a magnet.
I love how Nico speaks HIS truth about his own sexuality... It is so beautiful.
I love how it made me love how I speak my own truth of being dedicated to 1 man for 27 years. I can't imagine not being with him.
Does it mean I don't ever have fantasies of having sex with other hot sexy men? Of course not.
Just to feel youthful & alive if another man was sexually attracted to me would make me feel amazing.
Would I want to have sex with a younger or older man or several men? Hell YES I would...I'm 48 yrs old horny all the time, like a 18 yr horny teenage boy, but because my husband is not open he would be devastated.
I have finally dealt with my trama and freed myself from all those sad times and just love being alive and free. I chase my husband around the house... I day dream of being with other men just to feel youthful again. I am okay with it all.
This book is full of love and I wish nothing but the BEST for Nico. I say fill in ALL the spaces with healthy safe love always!!!! 👍🏼🙌🏼💕❤️

Eye opening
I didn’t know who Nico was until I recently watched Younger on Netflix.
He was my fav on the show so when I saw he wrote a book, I jumped on the audiobook.
I loved this book and I love his heart.
I'm a 64-year-old woman who lost my beautiful Niece at age 27 two years ago. She was gay and loved so much by her family but our love wasn't enough🥲
Society is so cruel and she just couldn't take it anymore.
Thank you Nico for telling them and showing them that they are loved and understood, that they are worthy and they matter.
Love is the answer. Love is love.
The world needs love now more than ever.

A beautiful journey
I’ve followed Nico for a few years now on social media. He has always had a way of captivating me through his passions and creativity. Being a passenger on his ride, entranced by every word, is an awe inspiring ride. Through his own journey of self exploration and learning to navigate where he fits on the spectrum of the world we live in, he compels us to look inward ourselves. From his colorful family, to his experiences with lovers and people that have impacted his journey, we can all find something to relate to in this book. It was a ride I will never regret taking.

CHANGED ME
I am changed. I am better for this book. I am now open to everything I don’t know and thirsty to learn more. I am questioning my own internalized homophobia and how it has been leading my life in ways I didn’t even recognize. Nico has a way of just expressing everything so beautifully. They sounded so sincere and really went deep into themselves to make this book a masterpiece. I have shared this book with so many friends. Thank you Nico. ❤️

I both laughed and cried y’all!
I am a 50+ cisgender female, according to traditional gender ideologies. I am married to a wonderful man, have two grown children, and was raised in the deep South. Well despite all of that; let me just say that I frigging loved this book!!!
I think I have always been more open minded and liberal than my counterparts, but over the last decade I have been on a journey to learn more about how gender is socially constructed and how it is influenced by our sociocultural. Gender, social class, and race are used to socially categorize people and this leads to prejudice and discrimination. I dream of a world where this does not exist; a world where we are all free to just live and love. I dream of a world with more Nico Tortorella’s in it.
Thank you, Nico, for sharing your journey with us.

Words cannot express, but I'll try.
Nico Tortorella's story serves as a bridge between the world we live in now and the possibilities of tomorrow if we are true to ourselves, patient with others, and embrace the driving force of it all, Love. We can unteach ourselves the roles and expectations society has drilled into us and re-emerged as the humble beings we were intended to be. All of it is love. All of it is you. We all embody part of the space between.

Amazing! Buy this book!!
A beautiful book written and voiced by the artist themselves. I appreciate his awareness, heartfelt story of self-actualization from both his past and current life. As a 1st gen Mexican-Portuguese American who’s queer-adjacent with a cis-male fluidity and selectively poly, I believe we are all still learning the ropes of life, light and social order when it comes to understanding how we all operate. The terms we use are still evolving and it’s up to us to continue to learn and educate newbies that don’t understand this world. I have a lot more respect for Nick and Bethany because it really proves that he’s without a doubt aware of his status on society by providing details on what he can does to change peoples mindsets for the greater good in order to inspire positive social change for future generations to come. I’d be this guys friend man. What a beautiful heart and soul. Also thanks for being on Younger. I cried when it ended. I truly felt like I was party of that family and it really provided me a reflective experience on my own personal life and where I want to be. Thanks for the great listen! BUY this book! I fucking loved it. all of it is you Nico. you're amazing. i wish i could tell you in person how much you inspire me in a daily. what started as me loving you on Younger became a deep understanding of non binary people, exploring love within me and others, with The Love Bomb, learning what love is to others, and me.. by listening for hours and hours, and with this book. learning about your life and what you've been through makes me so happy I found you and got to know your soul. love you Nico.
