About this listen
When Fletch learns there are four ex-cons on the loose in his part of the county, little does he suspect that one of the scruffy and very dangerous men will claim to be the son he never knew - a son about whom he was never even told, in fact.
But when a muddy and bedraggled young man accosts him in his study, it doesn't take our wily reporter and investigator long to surmise this kid might well be his son. When Fletch meets the kid's compatriots, he wonders how either of them is going to get out of this situation unscathed.

Story
The acidly funny first book starring the subversive sleuth in one of the most successful mystery series of all time. Fletch is an investigative reporter whose methods are a little unorthodox. Currently he's living on the beach. He's taking more than a little flak from his editor. She doesn't appreciate his style. Or the expense account items he's racking up. Or his definition of the word "deadline". Or the divorce lawyers who keep showing up at the office. So when multimillionaire Alan Stanwyk offers Fletch the job of a lifetime, which could be worth a fortune, he's intrigued.

Story
Early one morning as Boston's only investigator is returning home from solving another peculiar case, he has the displeasure of witnessing a spectacularly horrible show outside his front door: a massive aircraft, carrying over one hundred souls, exploding in midair over the harbor. Almost immediately, the Human Surplus League takes credit for the heinous act of terrorism. But "Reluctant Flynn" isn't so easily convinced, unlike his partner and governmental counterparts.

Story
Everyone loves Skylar Whitfield, Greendown Couty's winsome charmer. He has innate sexiness that makes women smile. But he doesn't make his cousin Jonathan smile. Jonathan's a Harvard preppy gracing the South for the first time and he has a hard time with Skylar's penchant for hot summer nights, long-legged women and southern masculinity. Skylar has an equal distaste for Jonathan's presumptions, snobbery and northern propriety.

Fletch never disappoints!
The further into the series you get the easier it becomes to predict the twists, but that's part of the fun! The characters were enjoyable. I found myself regularly laughing out loud. Dan Jon Miller's performance as the narrator was perfect. his timing is superb and he did enough to clearly differentiate between the characters without over-doing it.

Sly, wry and heartwarming
Introducing a new character: Jack is a chip off the old block! Enjoyed seeing Fletch develop a new side of his persona. I hope there are more stories that allow this side of Fletch to emerge.
Meanwhile, make Jack’s mother a more active, multidimensional character, as she was in early Fletch books.

Love this book!
What a lovely addition to the Fletch series! I’ve enjoyed the Fletch stories set in the 80’s and this ‘modern’ continuation did not disappoint. I want more Fletch!!
