Año 15, vol. 20 (diciembre 2018). --- Resumen Este ensayo aborda la cuestión de las relaciones entre la Iglesia y el Estado en las sociedades poscristianas a partir de recursos teológicos, históricos y bíblicos. Afirmamos la continuidad entre el mensaje del Reino de Dios predicado por Jesús y el mensaje del señorío de Cristo predicado por la iglesia primitiva. La cristología de los primeros cristianos no era una mera abstracción dogmática sino que implicaba una toma de posición ante el poder omnipresente del Imperio Romano. El anuncio del Reino de Dios y de Jesucristo como Señor (ya reinante en las comunidades cristianas) convirtió a la iglesia primitiva en una alternativa a la sociedad circundante. Sin embargo, con la llegada de Constantino, la iglesia dejó de ser alternativa y se convirtió en legitimadora del statu quo. Esta situación se ha repetido una y otra vez a lo largo de la historia, lo que ha representado una perversión del evangelio. El ensayo concluye con una pregunta al respecto de la posibilidad de que la Iglesia utilice al Estado para cumplir su misión, una denuncia a los diversos constantinismos actuales (tanto los conservadores como los progresistas) y un llamado a la fidelidad al evangelio de Jesús como clave indispensable para que la fe cristiana siga siendo una alternativa. Abstract This essay addresses the question of the relationship between Church and State in post-Christian societies based on theological, historical and biblical sources. We affirm the continuity between the message of the Kingdom of God preached by Jesus and the message of the lordship of Christ preached by the early church. The Christology of the first Christians was not a mere dogmatic abstraction but implied a position taken before the omnipresent power of the Roman Empire. The announcement of the Kingdom of God and of Jesus Christ as the already reigning Lord of the Christian communities made the primitive church an alternative to the surrounding society. However, with the arrival of Constantine, the church ceased to be an alternative and became a foundation of the status quo. This situation has been repeated throughout history and it represents a perversion of the gospel. The essay concludes with a question about the possibility of the Church using the State to fulfill its mission, a critique of the various current constantinianisms (both conservatives and progressives) and a call to be faithful to the Gospel of Jesus as an indispensable key for the Christian faith to remain an alternative.
