About this listen

For everything, a cost. In a war, people die.

Picking her battles is a luxury Amber never has. Still reeling from her brutal duel with the Queen of Diamonds, Amber must win over the Assembly. The price of failure? Her own execution and the utter destruction of Emergence. Traditionalist Athanate are calling her an abomination and baying for her Blood. When those who should be her allies attack her, she must bind enemies to her cause.

With time running out to save herself and her House, she must descend into the spirit world, where she has to confront her deepest, darkest fears and understand the horrific truth of her Athanate Bloodline, before rallying her uncertain troops and assaulting the enemy's stronghold in the jungles of Yucatán, the place they call the gate of hell.

She must wield unfamiliar and treacherous weapons, she must use and deny her Blood magic... and make another deal with a Lost God to survive.

The struggle demands her unique combination of talents, but they come with a lethal weakness. Will it claim her, or can she emerge victorious, bloody and unbowed?

I love Henwick’s style and Rankin’s voice! The eighth installment of Bite Back brings great Assembly, Matlal, and house drama! I’m excited for the next book!

So good!

dislike: house drama was almost, almost* too much, but! there was excellent action that i love throughout the story. never really slowed down. also, Matlal (Matlau?) is actually a big bad worthy of the hype! whoop! was wondering how he could be worse than the Swamp Witch but damn! yeah, scary mf, he is. ill probably re-read this when the next book comes out, looking forward to more, thanks Mark!

also, I've gotten used to the new narrator or she changed her approach because she no longer sounds like a teenager to me (like she did in Inside Straight) - so I'm no longer put off listening to her read some of the er, spicier scenes. no more cognitive dissonance regarding that, great job Emily! oh oh also, your accents are very good and i can distinguish the many many characters! Even Tara! fantasic

The book feels forced with an overdose of drama. To messy for me and I'll stop the series now.

Lots of messy drama
