About this listen
“The immutable fact of politics in America is this: liberals hate conservatives.”
Ann Coulter, whose examination of the Clinton impeachment was a major national bestseller and earned widespread praise, now takes on an even tougher issue. At a time when Democrats and Republicans should be overwhelmingly congenial, American political debate has become increasingly hostile, overly personal, and insufferably trivial. Whether conducted in Congress or on the political talk shows, played out at dinners or cocktail parties, politics is a nasty sport.
At the risk of giving away the ending: It’s all liberals’ fault.
Cultlike in their behavior, vicious in their attacks on Republicans, and in almost complete control of mainstream national media, the left has been merciless in portraying all conservatives as dumb, racist, power hungry, homophobic, and downright scary. This despite the many Republican accomplishments of the last few decades, as well as the Bush administration’s expert handling of the country’s affairs in the wake of the worst attacks on American soil and of the war that followed.
With incisive reasoning and meticulous research, Ann Coulter examines the events and personalities that have shaped modern political discourse—the bickering, backstabbing, and name-calling that have made cultural mountains out of partisan molehills. She demonstrates how the media, especially, are biased—and usually wrongheaded—and have done all in their power to obfuscate the issues and the people behind them, bending over backward to villainize and belittle the right, while rarely missing an opportunity to praise the left.
Perhaps if conservatives had had total control over every major means of news dissemination for a quarter century, they would have forgotten how to debate, too, and would just call liberals stupid and mean. But that’s an alternative universe. In this universe, the public square is wall-to-wall liberal propaganda.
Refreshingly honest and unerringly timely, Slander continues where Bernard Goldberg’s number one bestselling Bias left off.

Since the day Donald Trump announced his presidential campaign, the left has waged a demented war against him. Liberals used to pride themselves on their ultra-hipness, but Trump has turned them into weeping little girls in pink party dresses. The very people who once mocked right-wingers for (allegedly) overreacting to every little thing are now the ones hyperventilating and hatching insane conspiracy theories.

America is great for a reason. Built on principles of freedom, rugged individualism, and self-sufficiency, no country has ever accumulated more power and wealth, abused it less, or used that power more to advance the human condition. And yet, as America blossomed, left-wing radicalism and resentment festered beneath the surface, threatening to undermine democracy in the form of social justice warriors, the deep state, and compromised institutions like academia and the mainstream media.

Story
Behind most major political stories in the modern era, there is an agenda - an effort by opposition researchers, spin doctors, and outside interests to destroy an idea or a person. The tactic they use is the Smear. Every day, Americans are influenced by the Smear without knowing it. Paid forces cleverly shape virtually every image you cross. Maybe you read that Donald Trump is a racist misogynist or saw someone on the news mocking the Bernie Sanders campaign. The trick of the Smear is that it is often based on some shred of truth.

Unfairly maligned
I was wary of this book - I consider myself a moderate (most definitely socially, if not economically) and listened to Al Franken's 'Lies' just prior to this. Franken spends half the book accusing Coulter of being both a liar and a lunatic. Thankfully I decided to give this book a chance.
Al Franken is perhaps a BIT (although not much) funnier than Ann but Slander is a MUCH better book. And unlike Franken's, this book does NOT stoop to the level of personal attacks and unjustified invective.
It's not surprising the hard-core liberals choose to slam this book. But if you've got an even slightly open mind, I suggest you give it a chance and take a listen. Like me, you may find yourself (very) pleasantly surprised.

Liberals Should Listen to the Book
Being in the camp that voted for Gore in 2000, listening to Slander is difficult. I have listened to the media and allowed them to shape if not invent my opinions about Gore and Bush, as well as, to a larger degree, Democrats and Republicans. I really didn't have any other view of Gore or Bush prior to listening to Slander.
I am not a NY liberal, a group that Ann Coulter repeatedly attacks in this book, along with anything having to do with the NY Times. Though she berates NY liberals and the Times more than is necessary, Slander is a very good book that exposes many illusions about Al Gore and George Bush that I had come to believe during the 2000 election campaign. If you were a Gore supporter before the debates, didn't you think he would wipe the floor with Bush? Weren't you surprised and angry (at Gore) when he didn't? Slander details the educational records of both candidates and, if you hadn't done your own homework like I didn't, clearly shows why, due to media influence, you may have been duped into expecting the smarter(?) Gore to defeat the dumber(?) Bush.
I also was interested by Coulter's views on Reagan and need to revisit his presidency after hearing her views on him. Being fresh out of high school and having been raised by blue colar, union democrats, Reagan was never going to be my friend.
I can't agree with her brief attack on John McCain, the Republican I would have voted for if that party had seen fit to back him. In my opinion, campaign finance reform is a good issue and McCain was a terrific Presidential candidate.
Ann Coulter displays her formidible intellect and not a little humor in this book which I actually recommend more for liberals than conservatives. For conservatives, its really just another choir preach but for liberals, Slander makes for a terrific self-examination, if you can stand it, which is much needed in the wake of the 2000 election debacle and to prepare for 2004.

Good enough to listen to a few times...
The more conservative you are, the more liberal the media appears. The more liberal you are, the more conservative the media appears. In any case, no decent person lies nor embraces the lie and the liar.
I enjoyed hearing Ann's point of view. I know her facts are accurate because I remember seeing and hearing much of the recent news coverage she discusses. It was helpful to have her point of view to put it into perspective.
I don't like many of the people she talks about but before it was just a gut feeling. Now I feel justified.

Wow.
In her book, Ann Coulter confirms everything that most conservatives are afraid of. If you're a liberal and you claim that this book is biased after reading it, you really are an idiot. Ann Coulter very rarely cites an opinion. It's fact after fact after fact, all proving how ridiculously slanted the media really is, and how they hide from that fact with the kindergarten favorite, "I know you are but what am I?"
Strong Liberals: don't bother. Just point, laugh, & keep being an idiot.
Conservatives & questioning Liberals: You need to read this book and start paying attention to the country. I'm looking at things a lot more closely now. I'm also reading 'Treason' right now.

Coulter brings the facts down on the hateful Democrats exposing their dishonesty and hate using actual things Democrats have done and said repeatedly instead of what Democrats do which is screech that Republicans are deplorable etc. And making their case with lies and and quotes taken out of context.

Exceptionally well-documented & researched
It is fair to criticize Ann Coulter for her abrasiveness, which does get a bit tiring at times. But one cannot fault the research that she did for this book. This is not just a collection of gripes against the mainstream media, but a case-by-case expose of brazen, shocking bias with example after example after example. She gives sources for every contention and quote. There are no doubt people who will not find Coulter's book convincing, but anyone with an open mind will be persuaded to look at the news provided by our major media outlets with a much more critical eye.

Incredible how lefties just won't accept the truth
I am actually aghast at the fact that those who have negatively reviewed this tome have failed to see what she is talking about. The author provides clear, concise examples of overt bias in the media from the enablers, cheerleaders, and mouthpieces of the left, and backs up every claim she makes with some hard, verifiable evidence. Perhaps a well-reasoned response to these books, Treason and Slander, would be beneficial if someone feels that they could respond with a defensible position. However, I think that would be extremely difficult (read: impossible) because it extremely difficult to refute the evidence in this book. Most damning is the Alger Hiss information, in my opinion. Incredible the lengths that some would go to in order to protect their poster-child.
One response to a negative review that I had read before purchasing these books (Slander & Treason; bought them together) about the author's use of Lexus-Nexus searches as evidence. It is necessary to use that when the topic you are researching is the media. Since one of the points of these books is that a blatant, left-leaning bias exists in the media and that it enables the Democrat party, she had to use examples from the media. One cannot write with research from Harvard and Yale regarding the media in this case because no supporting viewpoint could be published from such a place.
My review stands as a stellar performance in both books. I recommend them together; what a pair!

Slander: Liberal Lies About the American Right
A fact filled analysis of media bias replete with well documented research. Of particular interest are the authors many references to lexus/nexus researh on specific characterizations of politicians from both the right and left. She has clearly put in the hours finding detailed and specific proof for her assertions.
Highly recommended.
