About this listen
Among followers of Jesus, great is often the enemy of good. The drive to be great - to be a success by the standards of the world - often crowds out the qualities of goodness, virtue, and faithfulness that should define the central focus of Christian leadership. In the culture of today’s church, successful leadership is often judged by what works, while persistent faithfulness takes a back seat. If a ministry doesn’t produce results, it is dropped. If people don’t respond, we move on. This pursuit of “greatness” exerts a crushing pressure on the local church and creates a consuming anxiety in its leaders. In their pursuit of this warped vision of greatness, church leaders end up embracing a leadership narrative that runs counter to the sacrificial call of the gospel story. When church leaders focus on faithfulness to God and the gospel, however, it’s always a kingdom-win - regardless of the visible results of their ministry. John the Baptist modeled this kind of leadership. As John’s disciples crossed the Jordan River to follow after Jesus, John freely released them to a greater calling than following him. Speaking of Jesus, John said: “He must increase, but I must decrease.” Joyfully satisfied to have been faithful to his calling, John knew that the size and scope of his ministry would be determined by the will of the Father, not his own will. Following the example of John the Baptist and with a careful look at the teaching of Scripture, Tim Suttle dares church leaders to risk failure by chasing the vision God has given them - no matter how small it might seem - instead of pursuing the broad path of pragmatism that leads to fame and numerical success.

Is successful leadership measured simply by the outcomes a leader achieves, or is there another - more essential - yardstick for measuring success? In Redefining Leadership, author, pastor, and college president Joe Stowell shows us that the best leaders are driven by Christ-formed character, and that truly successful leadership is not defined by the standards of this world but by the counter-intuitive practices and perspectives of the Kingdom of Christ.

Story
What if everything you've heard about leadership is wrong? Secular models of leadership rooted in pragmatic success dominate Christian leadership in the West. It makes our work impersonal and exploitive. And, at worst, it serves the leader rather than those the leader leads. We need a different style of leadership - one patterned after Jesus. We need to learn to influence others out of our character, for that is what Jesus did.

Story
Is humility a Christlike attribute that should be pursued? And even if it should be, can genuine humility actually be attained? Often so practical in application that it is overlooked, the answer is found by studying the life and words of Christ (whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your slave). This little book is a loud call to all committed Christians to prove that meekness and lowliness of heart is the evidence by which those who follow the meek and lowly Lamb of God are to be known.

Story
In The Book on Leadership, best-selling author, pastor, and teacher John MacArthur sets the record straight: Leadership does not come from a job title. It isn't a matter of personality or charisma. And it isn't the same thing as iron-fisted authority. True leadership—the kind that refuses to bend to a shifting, fickle world—comes from a much deeper source.

Every person has been designed by God for one-of-a-kind "Masterpiece Mission", what most people refer to as personal calling or personal purpose. Everyone needs to be able to name what God has put them on the earth to do. Most people never do. That is a tragedy of epic proportions. The Find Your Place book will help followers of Jesus locate three signals that will help people discern their personal calling: their gifts, their passions, and their story, and help them take meaningful next steps to engage that calling.

Being a genuine disciple of Christ flows out of a relationship with him. It's about experiencing God's grace, not earning his love through performance. A real relationship with Jesus Christ will produce a follower whose life looks progressively more like his life. Romans 12 provides a relational profile of an authentic disciple: someone who is surrendered to God, separate from the world's values, sober in self-assessment, serving in love, and supernaturally responsive to evil with good.

Story
We see a culture that promotes success at all costs, and working women are falling for it. It's happening every day. Priorities are shifting. Things are getting done...but are we doing what matters most? And that's why we wrote this book. This is the story of how we traded the lies of the world for the truth of our loving Father—the lessons we learned that challenged culture's "good things" so we could find the greatest thing. The book you're about to listen to is really a conversation—a conversation that pushes back against our culture with a Gospel-centered approach to work.

Utter WASTE of my time
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Stuttle makes openly biased claims about the mega church on the basis. He rightly says the call for all churches is to be faithful and seems to think the mega church is not being faithful because it is large. Why is it that being faithful has to mean small. When the majority of the american church is in decline it is easy for a Pastor or church to say "we are just being faithful" when they are not doing the things they are called to do in scripture. I have read 35+ books this year and this one was by far the worst one. Be faithful where God has placed you but don't go around bashing churches and leaders who don't do ministry like you do.
What was most disappointing about Tim Suttle’s story?
He is openly biased towards larger churches and gives isolated incidences in large churches as the basis for many of his arguments. Small churches also file for bankruptcy, have embezzling Pastors and commit suicide.
