His hilarious chronicle of the year he spent working for Carnival Cruise Lines takes listeners down into the areas where the crew works and lives, leaving listeners gasping with laughter as they're assaulted nonstop with events that range from the absurd to the utterly bizarre. Stewards fighting over food. Cutlery allowances and other nonsensical rules.

Story
Jacob Tomsky has worked in hotels for more than a decade, doing everything from valet parking to manning the front desk. He's checked you in, checked you out, separated your white panties from the white bed sheets, parked your car, tasted your room service, cleaned your toilet, denied you a late check out, given you a wake-up call, eaten M&Ms out of your mini-bar, laughed at your jokes, and taken your money. And in Heads in Beds, he pulls back the curtain on the hospitality business.

Story
How did the Wendels, one of New York’s most famous Gilded Age families, disappear from history? The Wendels built a fortune from New York real estate, and rubbed shoulders with the Astors, Vanderbilts, and Stuyvesants. But as the 19th century came to an end, the Wendel family tore itself apart. Following six years of painstaking archival research, Claire Prentice has prised open the door of the Wendels’ Fifth Avenue mansion—dubbed “the house of mystery” by the press—to reveal a fascinating and dysfunctional family imprisoned in a gilded cage.

Story
One late spring evening in 2010, Shannan Gilbert - after running through the oceanfront community of Oak Beach screaming for her life - went missing. No one who had heard of her disappearance thought much about what had happened to the 24-year-old: She was a Craigslist escort who had been fleeing a scene - of what, no one could be sure. The Suffolk County police, too, seemed to have paid little attention - until seven months later, when an unexpected discovery in a bramble alongside a nearby highway turned up four bodies, all evenly spaced, all wrapped in burlap.

Lost most of book 1’s magic
After a surprisingly enjoyable listen of book 1 in this series, I went in excited to continue the story with book 2. Unfortunately, much of the first books magic is lost, with several time jumps and lackluster stories that weren’t nearly as interesting. I’ll likely be returning this one as I have no interest in listening again, which is too bad because I really wanted to like this one.

Ship for Brains
Ship for Brains continues Brian David Bruns’s Cruise Confidential series. This second installment continues the true life on a cruise ship. I liked the first book of the series, but seemed to like this one to be more fun. I laughed out loud quite a few times at some of the antics that happened among the ship. Gary Furlong does a good performance in the audio version bringing the words of the book to life.
I am giving Ship for Brains three and a half stars. I am interested to see what else happens on the ship next in the next book of the Cruise Confidential series, Unsinkable Mister Brown.
I received the audio version of this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

Trippy
At first confused, thinking it was a memoir, then saw that it was humor. Much is based on real experience, and knowledge of the industry. So it's a blend, like a fruity Caribbean drink. Have been on many cruises, and written about them. So I appreciate the insider look. If you think of this as a bawdy Love Boat with added art knowledge you come close to appreciating the offbeat nature of it, ably narrated.
