Nothing supernatural could occur on a busy train platform. There's nothing terrifying about a little caterpillar. And a telephone, what could be scary about that? Don't be frightened of the dark corners of your room. Don't be alarmed by a sudden inexplicable chill.

Misleading, pompous attempt to present this as anything more than Sherlock Holmes stories.
Simon Vance delivers a masterful rendering of timeless classics by sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Annoyed and puzzled why Mark Garuda and Steven Moffat thought that their bland mumbling preceding each story would enhance the experience. And they put their names among the authors! Bad taste, pompous, cheap, irritating.

A Great Listen
A great selection of Sherlock Holmes stories, most of them being some of my favorites as well. I don't know all of the background of the stories of Holmes, so I found Mark Gatiss' commentary beneficial when it added context and background information that I was glad to learn. However, I thought Simon Vance's delivery and tone were a bit off sometimes. I think I prefer Stephen Fry's performance, but this was very enjoyable nonetheless.

Excellent, except...
I love Sherlock Holmes and all of the stories. I adore Simon Vance as the performer. I have only two issues with this particular Sherlock Holmes series: first, the photo of the BBC TV show “Sherlock“ on the cover is misleading. For whatever reason, you can’t listen to a sample even now in November, because the sample states that it’s unable to let you listen before the book release in March 2017. It is now November 2017; still no sample. Back to why it’s misleading: the photo implies that it’s going to have anything to do with the BBC TV show, but it does not. It is my favorite performer, Simon Vance, narrating the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Sherlock Holmes stories. The only problem with this is the other issue: if you have already purchased all of the Sherlock Holmes books then this is a duplicate. It is not the complete works, but a compilation of the original stories. It’s not the book’s fault, it’s not the story’s fault, it’s not the performer’s fault. If I had to blame anything: it would only be the fact that you can’t listen to a sample to know what you’re really getting, and any other sherlockian picture should have been used if this wasn’t a performance of the bbc Sherlock.
