Lucas Davenport = Great

If you could sum up Shadow Prey in three words, what would they be?

Davenport, suspenseful, exciting

Who was your favorite character and why?

While I guess Davenport but another character, it would be Lily. I enjoy the whole cast of characters in the Prey novels though.

Any additional comments?

I have read most of the Prey series and love it. Am going back and listening to them in order. This is his second book. The narration is excellent. Does not disappoint. I highly recommend this series.

So happy to "stumble" across this series.

If you could sum up Shadow Prey in three words, what would they be?

Thrilling, captivating and enthralling.

What did you like best about this story?

It was exciting and felt very plausible. It was a fresh breath that you followed both the police and the killers thoughts. The Main character Lucas Davenport, he's clever, intelligent, tough and a ladies man, but also a man who has has flaws and is hard to figure out. Well written characters that are not one dimensional.

What about Richard Ferrone’s performance did you like?

Richard Ferrone has a very cool dry voice, he makes the book come to life. I really enjoyed listening to him tell the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Some of the things that made me go woah, didn't see that one comming.

Any additional comments?

I'm hooked to this series, only greif is that some of the books aren't available in my country.

Ok, not as good as the first but still great!

This book was not as good as the first, but was still just a great book! I did not think it seemed true murderer/serial killer fashion like I was hoping for after the first Lucas Davenport book. This book was more so a social warfare drama with some casualties on the way of finding the lead perpetrators. I want to hear more about the crazy mind of a killer like Rules of Prey did for us. I will keep reading and listening though.

I'm done with the series

I was ready to settle into a new series starring Lucas Davenport. I liked Rules of Prey a lot. But this one was a put-off on several levels. I felt like the author wrote about native Americans without knowing very much about them. (Contrast this with the Tony Hillerman books) However, he included all of the "no good" stereotypes. We had drunken, drugged, miserable Indian characters in this tale, not one of whom inspired any real interest or worth for the plot. But it was the Lucas character that left me disgusted....the way he uses women with no regret. He just goes on about how he loves women, can't help it, and...implied...."take it or leave it." He's now a father...but that changes nothing. I felt sympathy for the New York lady cop who fell into step with this character and cries and begs at the end. Not fun to read. I'm not easily put off by personality flaws. So many great characters in other action novels are deeply flawed....Like Jo Nesbo's Harry....but this Lucas guy just bugs me!!!

Not his best. love all the others though

I love the story's normally since in a Southside Minneapolis guy. but this book I didn't .care much for. I absolutely love the rest I have read or listened too. this one I struggled to get through. Do yourself a favor and listen or read it for yourself. to each his or her own. I can't wait to listen to his next book I purchased already.

The Sandford books just keep getting better.

Very well written and narrated, Lucas Davenport is a chick magnet and one heck of a detective.

confusing

a bit confusing and seems to end with no conclusion the story itself has the possibility of something exciting and interesting but becomes very confusing with too many characters and too many storylines going on at the same time
