About this listen
"If I'm ever late for work, call the police!"
That's what Albuquerque, New Mexico, bank teller Girly Chew, 36, told her boss. The Malaysian-born beauty lived in mortal fear of her pathologically deranged husband and had taken out a restraining order against him. She was late for work for the first - and last - time on September 10, 1999. Her bloodstained clothes were found near a lonely stretch of desert highway. Chew's estranged spouse was an unrepentant scam artist with a terrifying violent streak. Born Armando Chavez, Jr., in Texas, he changed his name to Diazien Hossencofft and said he was from Switzerland. Claiming to be a surgeon and DNA expert with an antiaging formula, he conned a woman dying of cancer out of nearly a half million dollars. While married, he conducted numerous affairs - even managing to wrangle sole custody of the infant son he fathered with one of his mistresses. Nursing a sick obsession with his wife while exerting Manson-like control over his girlfriend/accomplice, UFO fanatic Linda Henning, 47, Hossencofft set the stage for Girly Chew's murder and followed through on his plan with sadistic enthusiasm.

Wealthy, beautiful, and brilliant, Shele Danishefsky had fulfillment at her fingertips. Having conquered Wall Street, she was eager to build a family with her much younger husband, promising Ivy League graduate Rod Covlin. But when his hidden vices surfaced, marital harmony gave way to a merciless divorce. Rod had long depended on Shele's income to fund his tastes for high stakes backgammon and infidelity - and she finally vowed to sever him from her will. In late December 2009, Shele made an appointment with her lawyer. She would never make it to that meeting.

Story
Verteran investigative journalist Stevie Cameron first began following the story of missing women in 1998, when the odd newspaper piece appeared chronicling the disappearances of drug-addicted sex trade workers from Vancouver's notorious Downtown Eastside. It was not until February 2002 that pig farmer Robert William Pickton would be arrested, and 2008 before he was found guilty, on six counts of second-degree murder. These counts were appealed and in 2010, the Supreme Court of Canada rendered its conclusion.

Good Job Mark Horner, Author and Ted Brooks, Nar
I really appreciate the great work, time, history, and people you brought to life in telling Girly's story. It's too bad she didn't get the courage to leave with Demetri. What a secret nightmare she was living. I feel so sorry for the lil boy, Girly's family & friends. I'm so happy her boss at the bank was loyal and persistent. They should have kept the creepy husband in the prison in NM and face the consequences of his choices. Because poor Girly wasn't given an option to escape. I must listen to it again. Much Appreciated.
