About this listen
America's most proficient covert operations team, hand-picked for its intelligence, analysis, and crisis-management skills, has had many a tough situation thrown at it. Years ago, before North Korea made its belligerent intentions known to the world, Op-Center's first mission was to thwart a crisis on the Korean peninsula. Since then, it has dealt with the machinations of Russian hard-liners, prevented the resurgence of age-old hatred in Germany, gone underground to prevent Kurdish terrorists from destabilizing the Middle East, subjugated the tensions of rebellious Basques, rescued the entire United Nations from mercenaries, and prevented an all-out war between India and Pakistan. Is it up to the challenge of preventing the next war? Absolutely.

Story
A terrorist bomb explodes during a South Korean celebration of the anniversary of the election of its first president. Alarms are raised in Washington. No one is claiming responsibility. The first suspect is North Korea. Could it be making a power play against South Korea and unification? If so, how will the U.S. respond? Paul Hood, Director of the Op-Center, must answer these questions. The Op-Center, a largely autonomous new agency which takes on the government's toughest security problems, is only six months old, and has never been given a foreign crisis until now.

In this factual account written with General Carl Steiner (Ret.), a commander who held responsibility for all U.S. Special Operations forces across all service lines, we get special insight into a largely secretive community whose members do not talk about their work. Last Good Book before Out of the Ashes
Good plot. Good rapport between characters. Lots of action.
SPOILER -
If you don’t like the soap opera interpersonal drama and characters that are really hard to like (Hood’s wife who is whiny and selfish; and, Gen Morgan Carrey who seems to more absorbed with her own power than an efficient organization) just skip the next two books. I found them boring and tedious. And you don’t really lose much of the plot line except the complete collapse and dissolution of Op-Canter (I was almost rooting for its demise given the personalities and characters.)

Aussie megalomaniac, radioactive waste
Would you consider the audio edition of Sea of Fire to be better than the print version?
I do not consider it to be better than the print but listening while reading enhances the experience.
What about Michael Kramer’s performance did you like?
Michael Kramer's performance was good as he has been in all his reading of the Op-Centre series. Although a koala is not a bear it is a marsupial.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I read it in one sitting. Too much time on my hands I guess.

A great no fuss read
Would you consider the audio edition of Sea of Fire to be better than the print version?
yes
What was one of the most memorable moments of Sea of Fire?
The end - the character twist where the pilot and Op-Centre intelligence chief discovered they both have the same name - Bob Herbert.
What does Michael Kramer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His familiarity with the entire Op-Center series which ensures that character interpretations through voice and accent changes are consistent. the delivery style is such that the listener is drawn into the suspense of each scene.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
there were occasions when i chuckled but i couldn't describe my emotional reactions as "extreme."
Any additional comments?
i have almost completed the op-center series, and the tendency to review incidents from previous books has become slightly irritating. the secondary strand running through the series of paul hood's separation is, by the time of sea of fire, seems irrelevant. sea of fire does still rate as a very good read in its own right.

Great narrator but poor script.
What did you like best about Sea of Fire? What did you like least?
I'm not really able to say because I could not bring myself to finish listening to the book. The narrator was very good but the script was unbearable.
Has Sea of Fire turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes, it could have turned me off Tom Clancy's books but I have listened to a few others of his books which were very interesting.
Have you listened to any of Michael Kramer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have listened to other performances of Michael Kramer before and they have always been phenomenon. He performed very well here but this script was a really bad one. After every sentence the author would write: "He said, she said, he responded ..." and these became rather unbearable to listen to after a while, so I decided to return the book.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
I would like to see it as I know the actors will not use the script word for word. I believe the story is a good one. I usually listen to my books after a long day at work to unwind and relish an exciting world of fantasy and not to be stressed out with an annoying repetitive cliche.
Any additional comments?
Do not be put off Tom Clancy's book by this one, he has many more you can enjoy.
