About this listen
Every story needs a hero. Sanctuary tells a story where the Church is the hero. Using experiences from his own life, Harry Schenkel relates how the Church has been the safe place and guiding light through many of life’s darkest moments. From drug addicted parents, to family sexual abuse, through a broken marriage, and his first son’s struggle with sexual identity, the Church, built upon the love and grace of Jesus Christ, has been Harry’s sanctuary. By telling his story, he hopes that the Church will be your sanctuary also.

I can relate
Growing up right in a dysfunctional family-I didn’t want the book to end. I learned so much about the church, Harry and Lisa.

Page turner
Just what I needed, I laughed, cried, and have shared with many friends and family. Never have I felt comfortable about sharing a faith journey or a “why go to Church” story. This was raw and incredible. Sanctuary was written in a way that is so relatable, thought provoking and can be a simple story or very theological. It gives hope to read such a powerful story with so many relatable issues. People struggling with sexuality, divorce, suicide, drugs, sexual abuse, and so many other things this world throws at us this book is for all of it. It without a doubt shows that we all belong, we all are loved and the church is a sanctuary no matter how broken we feel. I can’t wait to share it with our book club.

A blessed honest Love of Jesus
I am thankful to know the Pastor I call my own has the courage to share such honesty and experience. I feel understood better as a member of my church and know that Jesus is working!

Sanctuary from a new view
This is an amazing life story of resilience and faith. It is a good reminder that all of us are broken but can find sanctuary in the community of church.
