About this listen
Craft a sales pitch that dramatically outperforms an aimless feature walkthrough.
World-renowned product positioning and marketing expert April Dunford knows that standing out in a crowded market is the key to getting sales. In Sales Pitch, she shows entrepreneurs, salespeople, marketers, and business leaders how they can achieve success by building a narrative that clearly communicates how your product is different and better than anything else on the market.
Using a simple step-by-step method and compelling case stories, the author of Obviously Awesome guides you through a solid sales pitch structure that helps customers make confident buying decisions, while positioning you to clearly win in the market. In this book you will learn:
Why you need to be your prospect’s guide in the buying process
Why a sales pitch is a unique style of story designed to help your customer say “yes” with confidence
How “do nothing” is the most fearsome competitor you have
How and when qualification, discovery, and product demos fit into a sales pitch
How your positioning is reflected in a great sales narrative
Why your differentiated value is the star of the show
The eight components of a solid sales pitch
A successful sales pitch is more than a simple product walkthrough, a canned set of discovery questions, or a pushy sales monologue. This book will help you create a winning pitch that gets you better customers—and more of them.

Sell your tech (without getting technical). B2B tech marketing is confusing buyers with technical jargon and drowning them in meaningless buzzwords that leave them overwhelmed (and not all that interested in buying). When everyone’s using the same tired lingo, how do you cut through the noise and show buyers your value? You get punchy. In Make It Punchy, tech messaging expert Emma Stratton explains how and why you need to leave all the jargon behind. How to get real with buyers about why your technology matters to them.

Story
Great startups don't waste time on small stuff. If you study the early days of any great startup, you’ll see that 90% of their growth came from 10% of the stuff they tried. But most needed years of experimentation to find their growth levers. This book aims to shortcut that process. Generic tactics like paid ads, SEO and referral programs will only get you so far. Growth levers are things like the professional photographs that made tens of thousands of customers trust AirBnb when they otherwise wouldn’t—a crucial move that unlocked explosive growth.

Story
In sales, the worst thing you can hear from a customer isn’t “no.” It’s “I need to think about it.” When this happens, deeply entrenched business advice says to double down on your efforts to sell a buyer on all the ways they might win by choosing you and your business. But this approach backfires dramatically. Why? Because it completely gets wrong the primary driver behind purchasing decision-making: once purchase intent is established, customers no longer care about succeeding. What they really care about is not failing.

Cold calling is painful and uncomfortable for every single salesperson on Earth. The average seller makes a couple dials, hits 6 voicemails, and gives up the moment a prospect hits them with a nasty objection. But every time you decide to pick up the phone in spite of the suck, you separate yourself from the folks who quit. That's when you get ahead on the leaderboard. Cold calling sucks. And that's why it works. While most books are a 400-page exercise in academia, we have 4 promises to make this the most actionable sales book you've ever heard of.

They say you shouldn't ask your mom whether your business is a good idea, because she loves you and will lie to you. This is technically true, but it misses the point. You shouldn't ask anyone if your business is a good idea. It's a bad question, and everyone will lie to you at least a little. As a matter of fact, it's not their responsibility to tell you the truth. It's your responsibility to find it, and it's worth doing right.

A very well articulated approach to turn positioning foundations (from Obviously Awesome) into an actionable sales tool.
Lots of wisdom, experience and knowledge is put into this book.
My takeaways :
1. Fear as the most driving emotion in B2B
2. “No decision” is the biggest competitive alternative
3. The differentiation from StoryBrand, heroes journey and other approaches.
4. The guidances and nuanced advice in the implementation phase of the sales pitch.
5. The flow of the book works perfectly for me. I got a printed copy and a kindle version to use the book as a reference !

Absolutely WORTH it!
I'm really enjoying April Dunford's books and her approach to delivering the content. "Sales Pitch" is an impactful guide that changed the way I approach presenting ideas and products. Dunford builds on her "Obviously Awesome" book and expertise in positioning as she breaks down the elements of a compelling pitch, emphasizing the importance of understanding your audience's needs and clearly communicating unique value. Implementing her framework, I revamped my presentations to focus on the benefits that matter most to my clients. The results were immediate—engagement levels rose, and the pitches led to more successful dialogue and ultimately positive outcomes (aka...new business). Dunford's straightforward advice and real-world examples make the concepts easy to grasp and apply. For anyone seeking to enhance their persuasive communication and make a lasting impression, this audiobook is a solid resource. I think it is absolutely WORTH your time to listen to it.
