About this listen
We all endure trials, pain, and hardship in this life. The enemy often uses those experiences to convince us that our brokenness disqualifies us from ever being used by God again—that we can no longer be a testimony because of our emotional or physical scars. The truth is, your past pain and brokenness actually serve as preparation for what God wants to do in you and through you, if you will but surrender to and trust in him.
In Sacred Scars, neuropsychologist and fellow sufferer Dr. Michelle Bengtson helps you
- understand suffering through a biblical perspective
- discover how the trials of your life serve a purpose
- reflect on the healing that God has accomplished
- comfort others with the comfort God has given you
Just as Jesus's scars didn't disappear after his resurrection, our scars tell our story and lend credence to our testimony of the love and power of God. If you are ready to turn your past pain into present comfort and future hope, let Dr. Bengtson be your compassionate guide.

Story
Over my many years working with women in therapy, it would be hard to count the number of bright, capable, successful women who have shared with me their fears of not being “good enough”, or how easily they are derailed by disapproval. And I have yet to meet a woman who feels her body is as it “should” be.

Story
You’ve tried it all―saying the right words and prayers, reading the right Bible verses―but nothing seems to work. What do you do when your faith doesn’t seem to be “working” anymore? Ashley Morgan Jackson is no stranger to this kind of spiritual exhaustion and discouragement. Much like the biblical character Jacob, Ashley wrestled with God, trying desperately to keep trusting Him despite her pain. It was here she found that sometimes God requires us to hold on to Him so we can let go of everything holding us back.

Story
Dr. Peterson guides us through the ancient, foundational stories of the Western world. In riveting detail, he analyzes the Biblical accounts of rebellion, sacrifice, suffering, and triumph that stabilize, inspire, and unite us culturally and psychologically. Adam and Eve and the eternal fall of mankind; the resentful and ultimately murderous war of Cain and Abel; the cataclysmic flood of Noah; the spectacular collapse of the Tower of Babel; Abraham’s terrible adventure; and the epic of Moses and the Israelites.

Opened my eyes
So many times I am ashamed of my scars. I try to hide them. Dr. Michelle Bengtson showed me these scars are not only part of who I am but also need to be embraced. Scars. Not something to be hushed but spoken about. Thank you, Dr. Bengtson!
