About this listen

Ancelet Bay, Louisiana, on the surface is a peaceful and quiet little town. It seemed to be the perfect place for workaholic Rusty Martinez to detox and deal with destructive habits that had affected her health. The respite, however, comes with some unexpected side effects, one of which is a plastic flamingo-wielding neighbor who suspects Rusty is a terrorist.

Rusty's mental and emotional transformation becomes a wild ride. Police Chief Kirsten Flyte doesn't even realize that she's on the journey with Rusty as they leave life's back roads and hop onto the cerebral expressway that takes them through chaos, temporary insanity, and eventually bliss.

Come to Ancelet Bay with Robin Alexander, and let her tell you a tale about personal discovery, life, and love in her typical comedic fashion. Watch out for the flamingos.

Contains mature themes.

Slower start that usual, bang up ending

Robin Alexander/Lori Prince are my favorite dream team for lesbian fiction. I love to laugh, they deliver. The beginning was a bit lighter on the humor than I have become used to, but was still engaging. The ending was pure Robin Alexander, which means I laughed heartily.

Love love this book. Especially Stella and Mona. Rubin does it again. So does Lori.

Robin Alexander’s sense of humor shines through.

When you need a book to bring warm feelings and deep chuckles look for Robin Alexander’s name on the cover. Louisiana might not take as kindly to her writing as those from the other 49 states but that would be their loss. It’s all tongue in cheek good ribbing in the end.

Loved it

I've listened to most of Robin's audiobooks and this is by far the most funniest. I don't even mind the lack of sexual content. I can listen to Stella all day. I hope there'll be a sequel.

Lesbian love

They didn’t give a person a clue when providing the plot summary, or listing the genres what kind of a “romance” this was. Nowon the one hand, my favorite TV episode of all times was the one from. The Last of Us which was a funny and touching story about two gay men. However, there was no getting hot and heavy in the bedroom as it was in this one. Sorry, but I just can’t get enthused about that kind of romance. However, all I had to do was fast forward to the end of the chapter, and something else would begin.

the plot about finding the “peeper” was intriguing, although not exactly 5 star exciting.

If you are the type of person who likes to see men as depicted as inferior beings, you might also enjoy this story, especially the groveling towards the end. The character of Neil was an exception, although he, too, was described as a baldheaded crybaby.

The narrator was good, but I have one warning. If you listen to Audio directly from your iPhone to your hearing aids, beware. When the character gets screaming mad, the reader gets really loud and nearly blows out your eardrum.

Always love a Robin Alexander novel

What can I say? Per usual, this book was funny, entertaining, and had me rooting for the 2 main characters right from the start. The story line was awesome and couldn’t wait to find out “who done it”. Read this book, It’s a lot of fun!

Silly

I loved the “whodunnit” component, the deeper meaning underlying the main story was great too. I didn’t think the obvious xenophobia one of the main characters exhibited was at all necessary … even if the intent was to paint her “crazy”. There are plenty of other ways to do that without being offensive.

This story definitely did inspire curiosity in me for more playful mystery stories though, that’s really fun!
