About this listen
In a remote town on the Suffolk coast, the local residents are stalked by a brutal killer.
After the sighting of strange lights in the sky, the dismembered, burnt remains of the local RAF base commander are discovered in his car. An autopsy reveals that the victim showed signs of exposure to high radiation levels.
Assistant Chief Constable Angela White enlists the aid of both John Handful and local reporter Yazmin Nash. The level of radiation the killer leaves in its wake should have killed any normal man by now, but the murders continue: the killer appears to be both more and less than human. And then when a leading government minister arrives the pressure is on for Handful to solve the case not only quickly but also quietly, by any means possible.
Until a strange craft is discovered...
Handful then turns from hunter to hunted, where everyone is playing for the highest stakes, and where violence becomes the only solution....

Read between the lies
This was a very good story, that I nearly gave up on.Narration by Gerard Marquez was fair to good at times. There were many repeated lines, especially at the beginning of sentences. There were long gaps between words in some sentences. He has a nice voice though. I was given this book by the narrator, author or publisher free for an honest review.

A surprising change of pace
As a disclaimer, I was offered a copy of this book for the sake of an honest review.
Read Between the Lies is a different beast from the rest of the John Handful series. Hixson moves away from the classic murder mystery and delves into a more political, and ghastly, kind of suspense.
The result is a good, action-filled investigation that will keep you on your toes.
The narration is, sadly, very uneven. Gerard Marquez has a nice voice. However, I felt that his expression did not always follow the mood of the text, especially in dialogues. Moreover, there are numerous occasions where the narration skips back one line, and repeats passages. Aside from that, it remains very listenable.

Book was ok but narration was bad
This book has a good start and I kept interested in it for a while.
All the characters seemed jammed together.
I like action but this was not realistic action.
Simply put the narration should have been checked BEFORE this went out. There is an almost constant sound of metallic clicking and so many double takes I was focused on them more than the book.

Something is on a killing spree...is it human?
Good story. We follow PI John Handful as he investigates a murder. When the grossly mutilated bodies begin to pile up, and the government takes over the investigation, John begins to wonder...is there any correlation between the murders and sightings of a UFO? This is a gripping tale of murder and something sinister. Will Handful survive this case?

A good story, but...
I wish that I could have given this audio book a higher rating. Andrew Hudson wrote a very good story and Gerard Marquez did a good job with the narration, but the editing was severely lacking. I almost gave up on the book several times due to the same line being repeated over in over. I think that, with a better editir, This would have been a great listen.
I was given this audio book at my request and am voluntarily leaving this review.

Something is brutally mutilating bodies but is it human or alien. This book has an amazing storyline and an equally amazing narrator. Well written and absolutely creepy if you love supernatural thrillers this is the book for you.

Good Story
As with all of the books in this series, this one is very well written. Other than the numerous repeated phrases, I could find no flaws. A more professional sound editor could have prevented that.

I found the mystery quite engaging...
Andrew Hixson keeps improving! This time I actually felt connected to the story... and it was really guite engaging. The mystery, around which the story revolves, really worked, but alas, our hero (John Handful) is just hopeless at times! He has a propensity to trust his eyes and not his gut instincts, he over analyzes about whether or not to jump, when he should be Freaking Jumping, and this always gets him into trouble! As in previous books in this series, characters often make the most nonsensical, almost laughable decisions, so yeah, that needs to be addressed, but otherwise I think that this the best one yet! Also there still seems to be a few loose ends like for instance who's driving the dark Audi? Why are they surveilling him?
I'm not sure why we have a new narrator as Michael Sharp's narration was perfectly acceptable in bk 4, but I have to admit Gerard Marquez gave a great performance!
The major problem I had with this audiobook, was with the production itself! The audio version of the book had so many mistakes... just within the first 3 or 4 chapters, there was a handful of repeated words and/or phrases, and those goofy mistakes were shotgunned throughout the entire book! So, Grrrrrr on the audio editor who allowed those mistakes to slip by! The overall rating slipped down a 🌟 because of the editor, and hopefully that will be fixed soon...
