Get Mark Billingham's pulse-racing new Tom Thorne thriller, The Murder Book, now!
My name is Alice. I'm a police officer. I'm trying to solve a murder on a psychiatric ward. But I'm also a patient.
They were meant to be safe on Fleet Ward: psychiatric patients monitored, treated, cared for. But now one of their number is found murdered, and the accusations begin to fly. Was it one of his fellow patients? A member of staff? Or did someone come in from the outside?
DC Alice Armitage is methodical, tireless, and she's quickly on the trail of the killer.
The only problem is, Alice is a patient too.

Worried at first
Yes I was worried when I started listening to this book. So unlike mark billingham. I thought oh no he’s gone off ,I’m not going to enjoy this one. But………. It didn’t disappoint. Well I say that but I was disappointed to a degree because it wasn’t his usual writing but it got me hooked and kept me guessing right to the end. I gave it 5/5 because it is a good book with a great story but I do prefer his previous books.

Outstanding.
One of the best books I’ve read this year. The characters were so well drawn I felt I knew and cared about them all. Alice herself was warm and funny and narrator Maxine Peake did a spectacular job of giving her voice. I had the Kindle book version too but frankly it would have been a shame to miss out on the narration. Can’t recommend this one highly enough!

Best narration I’ve ever heard & brilliant story
I absolutely loved this book. Such a compelling story with some really likeable characters. The narration was the best I’ve ever heard. I’m actually sad now it’s finished. Please say you’ll write of Alice again, I’m invested in this character. Out of the hundreds of books I have enjoyed, this is a standout favourite. Honestly, it’s brilliant!

Awful!
This story be Mark Billingham was awful! The story went nowhere from the first ‘page’ to the last. Totally boring. My daughter has just started listening to it and I shall tell her not to bother going any further. She paid for it on my recommendation of Billingham’s stories being excellent. An absolute waste of money. I shall check more carefully before buying another book by him - whether in physical book form or on audio. He is quite entitled to attempt something different (extremely different), but this, for me, completely failed.
