About this listen

Polly is a clever little girl. She likes to explore the world, figure out what’s going on around her, and guess what other people are planning. She’s turning five today, and Mom has something fun planned for her birthday. Polly wants to unravel the mystery, but she can’t—Mom won’t let her stay in the kitchen!

Dad is going to take Polly to the park to play before her birthday party, but before they set off, Mom gives Polly an early present: a giant strawberry! Polly decides to hold on to it and not eat it right away. After all, it’s a special birthday treat.

Polly takes the strawberry with her to the swings, where she plans to put it in her pocket. But before she can do so, a boy knocks her over. It was an accident, but Polly’s strawberry is crushed—as are Polly’s feelings. This was supposed to be her special day, and now it and her treat are ruined.

But then Polly notices the other children. They are playing, laughing, and having fun. This makes Polly curious about what they’re up to—and what she discovers makes her birthday the most awesome one ever.
