About this listen
Cordelia Grace watched Bernard Howard, the love of her young life, go off to fight for our country in WWII. And she has spent the last three years creating the Pine Cone quilt that will grace their marriage bed when he comes home. Each row of triangles signifies a layer in her life, sets of memories, hopes, dreams, and prayers for her future, enough spoken words to cover them forever.
Her image of their "happy-ever-after" grows proportionally as the quilt expands. But is the man that returns from the war, the same man that she remembered? Are the dark shades of color that she had to use for the outside edges of the beloved quilt prophetic of her life to come? Can love and faith overcome all?

Story
After a tornado rips through her town, store owner Abigail comes across a piece of fabric from a wedding dress among the devastation. Abigail is moved to start collecting other swatches of fabric she finds - her neighbor’s kitchen curtains, a man’s necktie, a dog’s bed - which she stashes in shopping bags. As she pursues her seemingly absurd quest, horrible realities spark the question, “What kind of a God would allow such tragedy?”

Story
Vermont, 1972. Carole LaPorte has a satisfying, ordinary life. She cares for her children, balances the books for the family's auto shop, and laughs when her husband slow dances her across the kitchen floor. Her tragic childhood might have happened to someone else. But now her mind is playing tricks on her. The accounts won't reconcile and the murmuring she hears isn't the television.

there's a depth to the story that can be a roadmap
this story 's depth shows how dreams don't always come true. God remains in control even though He allows bad things to happen to the innocent and the good people. The story is a bit of a roadmap to becoming close to God in spite of what is going on in your life. When we allow God to be in control things turn out better than we could ever imagined.
This is a great story, the narrator could have been a little more animated, but overall was good.

Real story
This could very well have been a real story or real situation. I was intrigued on how the author kept the story entertaining and I was eager to know the next part. Not a spoiler, but a warning to read the description. Certain things could very well be triggers for negative memories, but probably not with the quilts of love audience?!

Hurt, Happiness, Hope and Healing
Could have been true. Though not a quilter, I enjoyed this book. Listening to the pain - was painful, but that is the point. I was engaged. The star of the story stayed in the background, a pine cone quilt, begun by a woman of great faith and fought for and protected by the granddaughter she started it for. She did not finish it, but it did get finished and that was part of why this was a sweet story, yet not syrupy. It was genuine, and did have an unexpected surprise near the end. The surprise might have been a bit much to believe but it did not take away from the story, because - after all- things do happen.

It surprises me how far we have came from the world where this was the normal part. I am glad this is no more, all created equal.
I am sure there was a lot more then just what happened here when they came back home.

Christian Historical Romance
This was such an interesting story! Strife in both families brings them closer together instead of farther apart. But the quilt is the key to everything. Well, the quilt, the Bible, and God's presence in their lives!
This wasn't my favorite narrator. She did a great job, I just didn't prefer her voice. Sorry.
