About this listen
Vret McClintock, a young channel in training at the world-famous Rialite First Year Camp, sees a dreary life before him until the instant he overhears the voice of Ilin Sumz saying the words he's been thinking - Certainly don't intend to stay a QN-3 for the rest of my life. His ambition awakened by that magical sentence, he sets out to qualify as a QN-2 before he graduates, and to meet the owner of that sexy voice!
In love with her and with her illicit historical fantasies posted on a secret board run on the brand-new campus mainframe computer, Vret risks his future career to extricate Ilin from her web of secrets before they can ruin the careers of others.

Story
1828. Robin Swift, orphaned by cholera in Canton, is brought to London by the mysterious Professor Lovell. There, he trains for years in Latin, Ancient Greek, and Chinese, all in preparation for the day he’ll enroll in Oxford University’s prestigious Royal Institute of Translation—also known as Babel. Babel is the world's center for translation and, more importantly, magic. Silver working—the art of manifesting the meaning lost in translation using enchanted silver bars—has made the British unparalleled in power, as its knowledge serves the Empire’s quest for colonization.

Story
Teddy Cannon isn’t your typical 20-something woman. She’s resourceful. She’s bright. She’s scrappy. She can also read people with uncanny precision. What she doesn’t realize: She’s actually psychic. When a series of bad decisions leads Teddy to a run-in with the police, a mysterious stranger intervenes. He invites her to apply to the School for Psychics, a facility hidden off the coast of San Francisco where students are trained like Delta Force operatives: It’s competitive, cutthroat, and highly secretive.

Story
It is the second stage of human colonization - the first age, humanity's initial attempt to people the stars, ended in disaster when it was discovered that Earth's original superluminal drive did permanent genetic damage to all who used it - mutating Earth's far-flung colonists in mind and body. Now, one of Earth's first colonies has given humanity back the stars, but at a high price - a monopoly over all human commerce.

Story
What would you change about your past if you had the chance? What if you didn't have a choice? Stevie Geller doesn't do conflict. She likes her job as a successful novelist and playwright because it allows her to peacefully ensconce herself in her New York City loft, avoid human interactions, and leave personal drama for the page and stage. When her agent asks her to return to her hometown of Darlington, Illinois, to accept an award, she agrees only because he promises the process will be quick and easy.

Wendy doesn't mean to kill Dina, the energy therapy practitioner who recruited her to an allergy study. She's not even sure how it happened. How could something as silly as hand waving and hypnotism turn Wendy's skin from empathic to lethal? Better yet, how can she change it back? She has a brother to take care of; earning a little extra money was not supposed to ruin her life this way. Refusing to live forever in fear of physical contact, Wendy goes straight to the source: the company whose strange energy practices caused her dramatic transformation.

Kim could tell at a glance Angel wasn't the average attractive yet poorly disguised extraterrestrial scout sent to assess Earth's defenses before the inevitable alien invasion. Angel's memory loss cover story? Lame. Robbing a passing ruffian of his shirt to cover her naked body? NOT a good way to avoid attracting attention! As a science fiction geek, Kim felt herself uniquely qualified to watch Angel and thwart her dark mission...once the alien got around to it.

Caspian Ambrov Zeor Says: Buy This Book!
What did you love best about Personal Recognizance?
When I downloaded this book, I had not read anything from the Sime-Gen universe for years...I was pleasantly surprised at the way the tensions and pacing were kept up, as well as how many Simelan terms came back to me at once without the need for direct explanations or exposition.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I literally listened late into the night and "could not put it down" or turn it off.
Any additional comments?
I hope to see more of this series reach Audible in the future

Great Read!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
All Sime/Gen fans should read this story. I've always wanted to understand more about Channel training and this is it. On top, this is a love story that is sweet without being graphic. My kind of story.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Personal Recognizance?
At the end when the Farris channel understand the purpose of Vret actions. If I tell more, it will give the story away.
Which scene was your favorite?
The Qualifying scene of Vret was my favorite.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It wasn't that kind of book. It did give me pride. Feelings that were evoke from the success of efforts of the main character, Vret.
Any additional comments?
One of the best narrator's I've heard. He had great inflection and dramatic pausing which is how I would have read the book. The only down was that he didn't know how to pronounce a few of the special Sime/Gen words. That I can forgive when the listening was so intensely pleasurable.
