About this listen

In Pepperfish Keys, Darryl Wimberley introduces listeners to Barrett "Bear" Raines, a Black cop trying to win some respect in a very White town.

When a shady senator's daughter is brutally murdered, Bear is assigned to the investigation. He's still bitter that the charges against the senator for money laundering were just thrown out for lack of evidence, and he's got a hunch about the girl's murderer. Allegations fly, and Bear's afraid this case will turn out just like the last one.

Soon, local TV reporter Sharon Fowler, who has also been trying to bring down the senator, joins Bear to put together all the missing pieces. As the evidence piles up, Bear must decide whether or not he can trust his instincts.

Wimberley keeps listeners guessing until the very end, and a taut narration from Dion Graham ratchets up the suspense.

The author must have had a dictionary and thesaurus “readily” at hand while writing this novel - too obvious. The narration was mediocre. The sexual innuendo was overloaded. This novel just didn’t flow well.
