About this listen
This fully updated edition of the international best seller includes Pep Guardiola's Bayern years and his decision to join Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola is the most successful and sought after football coach in the world. After being appointed first-team manager in 2008, he transformed Barcelona into arguably the greatest club side of all time, winning an unprecedented 13 trophies in four years. Following a shock sabbatical from the game, he replaced Jupp Heynckes at the helm of Bayern Munich at the start of the 2013-14 season, twice winning the Double in his three years in charge. He then announced that he would be joining Manchester City for the 2016-17 season, thereby beginning what could prove to be his greatest challenge yet: turning them into a team that consistently wins in the most difficult of leagues and a regular challenger in the Champions League...and doing it the Guardiola way.
Guillem Balagué has followed Pep's career from the outset and has had direct access to the man and his inner circle. This, then, is the definitive portrait of Pep Guardiola and his relentless pursuit of footballing perfection.

Story
A mazy dribble through the recent history of European soccer, showing how shifting styles and influence have shaped the game. In the early 1990s, the Dutch footballing philosophy was worshiped across the continent. Then the baton passed to the Italians, who clearly boasted Europe's strongest league. But when France started winning everything at international level its national academy became the template for others, until suddenly, almost out of nowhere, Europe's most revered player and manager both hailed from Portugal.

Story
Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the greatest footballers of all time, a dream he pursued from the age of just 12 when he left his humble origins on Madeira behind. It wasn't long before he had the biggest clubs in Europe knocking on his door, but it was Manchester United who won the race for his signature. Under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson, Ronaldo developed into the complete footballer and athlete, winning three league titles and a Champions League along the way. He then became the biggest galáctico of them all when he transferred to Real Madrid for a record-breaking fee.

Story
No one knew it when their experiment began, but without any particular genius or acumen, the motley cast of billionaires and hucksters behind the modern Premier League struck gold. Pretty soon, everyone wanted to try their luck, from Russian oligarchs to Emirati sheikhs, American tycoons, and Asian Tiger titans. Some succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. Some lost everything. Today, players are sold for tens of millions, clubs are valued in the billions, and games are beamed out to nearly 200 countries, all while the league struggles to preserve its English soul.

Story
FC Barcelona is not just the world’s highest grossing sports club, it is simply one of the most influential organizations on the planet. At last count, it had approximately 214 million social media followers, more than any other sports club except Real Madrid CF—and by one earlier measure, more than all 32 NFL teams combined. It has more in common with multinational megacompanies like Netflix or small nation-states than it does with most soccer teams. Journalist Simon Kuper tells the story of how FC Barcelona became the most successful club in the world.

In The Barcelona Inheritance, Jonathan Wilson reveals how and why this came to pass, offering an analysis of the evolution of soccer tactics and style. In the late 1990s, Johan Cruyff's Dream Team was disintegrating and the revolutionary manager had departed, but his style birthed to a new generation of thinkers, including Pep Guardiola and José Mourinho. Today, their teams top the Premier League, marking the latest installment in a rivalry that can be traced back 25 years.

Great storytelling
This is the first audiobook I listened to here via Audible, and it didn't disappoint. The author did a nice job with the chronological flow of Pep Guardiola's story while inserting tidbits we don't know yet. I also like how he cited sources, both himself and external ones, when doing so.
As for the narrator, I'd have to agree with the same sentiment of other listeners that it could use a little improvement with some of the mispronounciations of names. While he delivers the lines clearly, I felt mixing it up and showing some emotion could add even more to the story.
I feel satisfied overall, and this audiobook should be able to feed you the necessary stuff regarding, in my opinion, the best football manager in tje world today.

Loaded with insight.
The information and experience that Pep shares with the readers in this book is priceless. As an obsessed person with the sport, and particularly Pep's style of play, there is so much to be learned from this man. From his time in Barcelona to Munich and now Manchester, you'd be stubborn to say you walked away from this book without having learned something. The narrator wasn't the best in my opinion but I repeat, the information that Pep shares with the author is priceless. He's a gem for this generation of spectators of football.

Pronunciation
I don’t think this person could have mispronounced more names if he had tried. Seems a bit shocking that you would hire a narrator to tell a story and not learn how to pronounce so many key names that get repeated dozens upon dozens of times. I loved the book but this was a tough lesson.

Most of the player names are mispronounced!!
How can a sports audibook be considered credible if most of the player names are butchered! Shame on you Mr Ballague for not honouring the stars you are privileged to write about.
