About this listen
Pawns of the Pacific is the electrifying third book in The War Planners military technothriller series.
While the United States is preparing for war with Iran, Chinese billionaire Cheng Jinshan and his wicked spy, Lena Chou, are moving their pieces on the board. Deception and misinformation are everywhere.
Now, in order to save America, the leaders in the CIA and Pentagon have set up a secretive task force at the CIA headquarters. Their mission: to thwart Jinshan's plans, and reveal the truth to the world.
Each member of the Manning family has a critical role to play. David Manning is brought in to the CIA task force. Chase Manning is sent to team up with a US Marine Corps special operations unit. Admiral Manning leads the USS Ford Carrier Strike Group, filled with America's latest and greatest naval technology. And Lieutenant Commander Victoria Manning is the officer in charge of a helicopter detachment on the navy destroyer, the USS Farragut - the only ship that stands in the way of a Chinese onslaught.
Filled with pulse-pounding action, well-rounded characters, and unpredictable twists, Pawns of the Pacific delivers a satisfying third chapter to The War Planners series.

The Communist Chinese leadership decides to move up their timetable to become the world’s sole superpower from 2049 to the present. Part of this is to unify Taiwan by force. They believe the best model for accomplishing their wider goals is to copy the comprehensive moves by Imperial Japan. The CCP/PLA thinks they can replicate the successes of the Japanese, while at the same time eliminating the failures. By means of subterfuge, they strike their East Asian neighbors, Western Pacific sea lanes, and the key American naval bases, relying on advanced missile and drone technology.

Awesome story. Narrator not so much.
Loved the story. Great background and realistic content.
The narrator tried too hard on accents and it comes off corny for some characters.

Good Story, Narration distracts from the book.
The story is good on the technical aspects but some what predictable. Michael Pauley's performance distracts from the quality of the book. At times it sounds like AI reading the text, very unhuman.

Okay Story Bad Narration
My overall rating of Okay is helped by being able to read the book as well using Whispersync which is a blessing so I don't have to listen to the narration. Is that computer generated? I let the rating popups be my guide with two stays being "It's okay". I might have given the story a three star rating except I don't consider it "Pretty good".
