About this listen

Some bonds weren't meant to be broken.

Vampire PI Evan Fournier has dealt with his fair share of danger and heartache, but nothing prepares him for the pain of a broken bond with his mate—especially when his mate is the one who severed it. Bond or no, he still loves Colin—fiercely. Trust, however, is harder to come by. And when a demon starts terrorizing paranormals in Toronto, trust in one another is exactly what they'll need.

Former firefighter turned crime-fighting phoenix Colin Zhang knows who Evan was—is—to him, but he doesn't know if he can give him what he wants. He just needs a little time to figure things out. Unfortunately, bringing down a demon bent on mass murder leaves little time for anything else.

The only way they'll destroy the demon is by teaming up with an unlikely partner to infiltrate a gang of terrorists. But the only way they'll save themselves is by finding a path back into each other's arms-and hearts-once again.

Contains mature themes.

A wonderful conclusion to this story arc/series! Thank you so much Jenn Burke for giving us readers Evan’s story! The robust world building made this series feel more tangible than most. Wonderful plotline and development. And a big thank you to Tim Paige for another amazing performance! Bravo!

Beautiful conclusion

I really liked the way everything wrapped up, especially with the creation of the new organization, which was something I kept thinking they really needed and had been hinted at throughout the series. Overall, I really like the series. There were times I thought certain actions were a bit much, but way better than the stupid overreactions by Wes from the first series. I really like the two MCs and I really enjoyed seeing them blossom into their more fully fleshed out characters. I wasn't the biggest fan of the voice actor though. He felt a little too much like he was doing a voice over for a movie trailer, like it felt too over acted and fake. The voices for the characters were pretty good though,

Great Conclusion

The story itself and the book is amazing but sadly Tim Paige kind of let me down hard in this version. His accents are bad and sometimes you couldn’t tell the difference between voices and would have to try and go off clues on who was speaking. HIGHLY recommend the books though!

The story is amazing

This improved on the last book with an undercover assignment and demon mystery. However, I did not enjoy Collin’s passive aggressive, mixed signal mistreatment of Evan. I never warmed up to Collin and therefore the multiple nooky scenes fell flat (especially the ones happening during their undercover assignments… totally unbelievable).

Given that I listen to urban fantasy for escapism, and to romance for the squee, I didn’t like the overemphasis on hatred (against paranormals or based on orientation). Yes, discrimination is bad, but in this series it was never ending. I preferred more immersive series like Alice Winters’s NPC vampire police procedural-romances.

Better mystery, still downer romance
