Very slow mystery-wise, narrator okay

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Well, the narrator was okay with different voices, but seemed to be a little older sounding to me. The story itself is centered more around getting to know people and history rather than the mystery. There is a bit of language, which I personally do not like or feel is necessary.

Do you think One Bad Apple needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

You'd have to super-love the characters to want to listen to more of the slow stories, but they are for the most part clean little small-town type stories with a little bit of mystery.

Bad Boston Accent

What did you like best about One Bad Apple? What did you like least?

It's a cozy mystery and I liked the overall premise of a city banker starting over in the country with an orchard.

Would you be willing to try another book from Sheila Connolly? Why or why not?

Yes, I am invested in the characters now and would like to know what's next for them.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator pronounced a main character's name in an odd way and it annoyed me all 500 times she said it. Also, the accent was just bad and hard to listen to. I had to pretend they were from somewhere else to get past it. Also, her voice sounded much older than the character.

Could you see One Bad Apple being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

If the narrator stopped attempting the accent the book would've been much better, she should stick to her normal speaking voice.

Wonderful Cozy Orchard Story

Would you consider the audio edition of One Bad Apple to be better than the print version?

Yes I actually it enjoyed it

What does Robin Miles bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She did a wonderful job.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I enjoyed the friendships that started in the books and I look forward to seeing were they go. I also love the information we learn about remodeling and orchard. I think the story it was great as well. It keep me going.

I so look forward to the future books. I love to see the relationship and friendship grow more. I also like to see how the orchards bloom. I recommend this series to others.

Murder in the Country

Which character – as performed by Robin Miles – was your favorite?

Seth....steady, hardworking, all-around good guy that tried to do his best for everyone.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not really, although when Meg was speaking to Cinda at the town meeting, laying out all that she thought was the motive for murdering Chandler, I thought "good for you, stand up to her"

This audiobook was a casual thought, I was just shuffling through the different recommendations and seen it. Listened to the sample reading & decided to give it a shot...it's not heavy drama or fluff....has just enough to keep me interested....on to the next book of the series.

Beginning slowly, some moments of intense melodrama, this is a "curl up by the fire and sip wine kind of book". The voices were distinct and varied. The characters were not compelling but light weight. Not interesting enough to visit them again in the next book.
The best part was the narration.

Local culture

I was born and raised in Western Massachusetts and no one here pronounces the town name AM-herst. It may not bother others but I found it really irritating and, since the book is focused on that area, the town is mentioned a lot. We also don’t sound like we are from Boston or Maine - the ‘accents’ were very odd. The story was fine but it would be nice if there was more care placed on local culture - at least the pronunciation of a town. I’m guessing the author knew the area somewhat - maybe that isn’t communicated to the narrator.

What didn’t you like about Robin Miles’s performance?

It reminded me of the ridiculous accents they stuck on the actors in the movie Fargo. Absolutely horrible.

Was One Bad Apple worth the listening time?

I would read it again before listening again.

I really love this author, I hope that the rest of the books don't sound as over done as this one did.

Historic Homes Can be Murder

Meg's mother inherits a farmhouse and orchard that has been in her family for hundreds of years. She asks her daughter Meg to move into it, interview real estate agents, and get the old home ready for sale. Since the bank Meg worked for has merged with another bank, her position no longer exists, and so does her relationship with her ex boyfriend. Meg is not only free to help her Mom, she is fortunate to have something to do while she is getting her life together. Meg learns a lot about living in the country, including the difference between a septic system and a sewer system. Most importantly even new septic tanks can't handle dead bodies dumped into them before they are backfilled.

Since the septic tank is on Meg's property, Meg becomes a murder suspect. She is befriended by one family but the rest of the community really hope she did it, and not one of their own. This makes Meg somewhat isolated. she has cordial relationships with the people in the town, but there is no real warmth for the first part of the book, and then only with one person.

Oddly Meg does not immediately grab her phone and tell her Mom that their plan to sell the old home hit a snag. Reasonably a daughter would keep her Mom posted on the progress of the house renovation, not to mention the dead guy in the septic tank.

This is a slow moving story. It distracted me while I was doing a slightly complicated job that I hate. I probably will not get the next one, but this one really helped me through a really irritating job.

I like this authors style.

I have listen to another series by Sheila Connelly and enjoyed them. This is a different series and I enjoyed this first in the series. I look forward to listening to more.

An all Around Cozy Mystery

LIght reading but a tightly knit story. Interesting characters that are credible people, you might know or would like to know.
Meg would never have imagined that she'd become involved in a murder and of her own ex boyfriend. When his corpse is blocking up her new septic system, Meg is a prime suspect. Dealing with a hostile detective that looks for the easy, fast way to close the case forces Meg to find the killer herself. Robin Miles was the perfect narrator for this book. Her voice is fantastic.
