About this listen
John Carr has recently left the SAS, after a long and distinguished career, and is now working for a Russian oligarch in the murky world of private security.
But an incident from his past - in which three terrorists were brutally killed - suddenly comes back to haunt him.
Tracked by a hit man out for revenge, John Carr is forced to step over the line to defend himself and his family. It's a cruel and violent world - and one he thought he'd left behind.
But some wars never end.
Patriot Games meets Taken in Once a Pilgrim. John Carr shows all the Reacher-esque hallmarks of a cold-blooded antihero doing what needs to be done, whatever the consequences.
James Deegan MC is a fantastic new voice in the thriller genre, writing with unprecedented authority and authenticity.
Including an exclusive interview with the author.

Good book, great narration
Deegan's book is good, though the plot is quite conventional. Manning's narration is truly excellent!

Excellent
Really enjoyed it, gruff and brutal. Even though it is fiction there is realism of some situations which can only be told by someone who lived it

Great story, incredible pacing and real.
About 2/3 of these way through I saw that I had 4hrs to go and I felt a profound sadness that this book would end. On finishing it I have immediately started book 2.
The author has incredible pacing, the action sequences unfold with precision timing. He’s a truly gifted writer and a great storyteller.
Narration is superb. His accents can be a bit dodgy, but easily forgiven considering his awesome style.

Do some research, narrator!
This narrator has a lovely voice but has not done his job. It is easy enough to check how unfamiliar words are pronounced. His accents are pretty bad too.
