About this listen
When a con artist fixes on her beloved grandson David, Helen decides retirement will have to wait. Instead, it is the beginning of a journey into France, her old battlegrounds, and a quest for retribution. For Helen Mercier is no sweet little old lady. She has fought for justice before, and if the criminal thinks he can get away with insulting her family, he has a surprise coming to him.

An Excellent Story, Excellently Read
Helen Mercier was born of a French father and English mother. She had adventures in the French Resistance, in her career, and now has settled down to quietly enjoy her grown grandson David and her dogs. Then her grandson is swindled by a flimflam man. He's left in the hospital with injuries and broken bones, he's lost a sizable chunk of money and his beloved E-type Jaguar that he lovingly restored over two years.
Helen Mercier sets out to get back what rightfully belongs to her grandson. On the way, she meets up with her first love, some interesting people, and finds out she's not as past it all as she thought.
This story is fun, Helen is believable and entertaining, the book is told from her point of view and we get to listen to her thoughts and opinions. She has some luck and a bit of self doubt. This is not a mystery, it's a mildly thrilling story of people finding a way to turn the tables on a very bad foe.
The narration is skillfully done, with enough of a French accent for the parts that need it. This allowed me to enjoy the story without being distracted by the unskilled narration.
Well done. It is quite rare for me to find a book where I can feel happy giving all stars.
